Chapter 19

Colton was stunned. Laura was married, and she didn't tell him. She hid this from him all this time. He was shocked. He never expected her doing something like this to him, and then it came back to him how shocked she looked when he introduced her to him, and how many times she asked about nick. She should have told him right away, but she decided against it. She made him look stupid. He couldn't even look at her. It was like someone threw a bucket full of water at him, and made him wake up from a dream. Indeed, it was too good to be true.

"What?" he tilt his head to the side, his eyes holding a look of disappointment.

"I'm sorry" her voice broke " I know I should have told you but I couldn't"

"Bullshit" he shouted while standing "how could you? "He said disbelievingly.

"Colton" she stood up and tried to touch him, but he jumped away from her.

"Don't you dare touch me" he said menacingly. Laura just sobbed harder.

There was a heavy silence surrounding the cottage, Colton was breathing hard and Laura was sniffing while wiping her tears.

"He was investing in your company. I thought by telling you, it would harm what you've been building for years" Colton just scoffed.

"Bullshit" Colton burst out. He looked at her and shook his head "I can't even look at you, you're a fucking liar" he spat. Lauren started shaking her head vigorously.

"No... please, just listen to me"

"So you could lie to me again."

"He cheated on me with my best friend. I found them both in bed. I moved to another city to start an new life, and then I find you, I didn't want you to see me as divorced woman who couldn't keep her husband and when you told me that he was investing in your company, I was afraid that if I tell you,I don't know you willleave me because your company comes first, or you will not work with him, and I'mscared that later you will start hating me, because you missed a greatopportunity"

"and you're expecting me to believe that shit, what if you're lying again, what if it was you who cheated on him, what if you were both plotting behind my back to take my company." He spat out.

"I know I hurt you, but please don't say this nonsense, I've never lied to you about my feelings. I just didn't tell you that I was married, that's all" her voice broke at the end. Colton turned his back to her, his shoulders were shaking angrily.

"Say something" Laura murmured. Colton closed his eyes for a moment. He remembered the time they spent together, the intimate moment they shared over the weekend. He wasn't sure if she was lying about her feelings towards him, she seemed genuine whenever she was with him. He remembered her state when she saw nick at the gala, she looked shook. He looked at her reflection in the mirror. She looked heartbroken, which made him feel a bit sad, and he hated himself for caring about her for loving her after all this. His mobile phone started ringing. He retrieved it from his pocket. It was his sister, he didn't answer the call, he turned towards Laura and opened his mouth to talk but the phone rang again.

"What?" he growled.

"Colton" Juliette was crying " mum...." Her voice broke. Colton's eyes widened. Something happened to his mother, something bad.

"What happened to mom?" Colton shouted.

"She fell down the stairs. We're in the hospital right now, you should come"

"Text me the location" He replied. He strode towards the bedroom to retrieve his keys, Laura followed him.

"What happened to your mom?" Laura asked.
