CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT

Two months has passed since my wedding and coronation and things were moving swimmingly. There were no threats present. No Romanians. No Athenodora and Sulpica. And even though Gabriel had miraculously gotten away, there was no sign of him. Even Demetri couldn't find him, which means that he's either dead or worse, someone is shielding him.

I now have two chambers: my private chambers and the one I share with my mates. The new chambers are gorgeous. It has marbled walls and a nice gray, smooth carpet that reminds me of minky fabric. The bed is huge and fancy as well. The bathroom is of marbled wall and tile and it has a rhombus-shaped bathtub. It's just absolutely gorgeous.

"Your last luggage from your private chambers, my Queen." a guard tells me.

I take the luggage and dismiss them. I had decided that parts of my clothing would be stored in the shared chambers, to save some of the wardrobe's space in my private chambers (as Heidi had filled it to the brink), but to also make sure I had clothing after...certain activities.

Yes, I am completely bonded to the three of my mates. Each bond was completed with each other on separate nights. Our bond, according to Marcus, is a shining, glowing gold now, symbolizing that the bond has been completed.

Putting the last dress in the wardrobe, the chamber's doors open and Marcus walks in. "Hello, mia amore." he kisses my cheek.

"Hello, dear." I acknowledge him while closing the wardrobe's doors shut. "How's the trial going on downstairs?"

"We're done with it. The criminal has been sentenced to death for killing a whole village of humans. He overate." he replies. "Caius and Aro should be here soon."

"I hope so. I am getting quite hungry." I rub my stomach. "I really don't want to be late for our monthly outing, Marcus. I really need this break from all this royal duties. I can't do paperwork, occasional trial, meetings, etc, all the time. Besides, I would really like to visit home. Especially Garrett."

Marcus smiles. "I understand."

Before I can rant even more, the doors once again open and a black-haired man and a blonde-haired man walk in. Aro and Caius. "Finally!" I run to them and hug them both. "You're here! Now, let's go. I'm hungry."

Aro laughs. "We need to get dressed."

I squint my eyes. "You look fine. All three of you. We aren't going on a date, just our monthly hunt. No need to get even more fancier. I would suggest sweatshirts and jeans, though."

Caius looks taken aback. "Preposterous. We would never dress in such...horrid clothes as those. Do people not like to look well-dressed anymore? The world has gone mad!"

"I quite like the idea of women wearing jeans, mind you." I say.

Caius shakes his head. "I don't. It shows women's curves. Showing off their behind to the world. Look at me, look at me! I have curves!" he scoffs. "Absolutely preposterous. You, my dear," he points to me. "Have been corrupted by the modern world."

I laugh and shake my head. "Whatever you say, dear." I dismiss him. "Anyway," I drawl. "Seeing as you all refuse to actually look normal, shall we?"

"Dear, you are wearing a dress. Don't know what your exact definition of normal is." Aro says.

I roll my eyes. "I'm forced to wear one because of this stupid dress code that I keep being shot down from overturning. Can't I be comfy?"

"No."

"Wow, Aro. Just...wow. Anyway, can we go yet?"

"Yes. Come on." Aro lends out his arm for me to take and I take it. He then proceeds to escort me into the garage and Caius opens the back door for me and I slide in, waiting for the others to enter.

"Where are we hunting this time?" I ask.

"In Florence." replies Aro.

"Okay."

An hour passes and we are finally in Florence. The night sky has completely dominated the atmosphere and stars twinkle in the sky. "Oh, look!" I say pointing to the sky. "Constellation of Orion!"

"Indeed." Aro says. "Good eye."

"Thank you."

"Perhaps we should cease these talks and get on with the hunting, brother?" Marcus inquires.

"Definitely." Aro says.

We prowl the area and enter an alleyway where a group of four people are huddled together, conversing quietly. The perfect prey.

The four of us rush at our prey and take one of each into our arms before sinking our teeth into our caught prey before disposing them. I wipe my mouth.

"Mmm...I'm quite full." I say, rubbing my stomach.

"Good." Aro says. "Let's head back home."

Before we can even step one foot, a cry echoes out in the alleyway. A cry of a baby.

"What the? What is that?" Caius asks.

"It's a baby." I tell him. "The noise is coming from there." I point to a box. I walk to it and sit on the ground, gently lifting the box to see the baby. The baby is young and clearly has feminine features. "It's a girl." I tell them. I lift the baby out and cradle it. The baby already has medium long light-brown hair. "I think she's been abandoned."

Aro walks over and holds the girl's hand. His eyes glaze over for a moment before returning to their normal state. "You're correct."

"By whom?" I ask.

"Those four. Two of them were the parents and the others were going to dispose of the baby. They were exchanging money for the baby." he tells me.

I shake my head. "Monsters."

"Indeed."

A sudden thought enters my mind and I am not quite sure if my mates will agree to it but I know I have to try.

"Aro."

"Yes, dear?"

"I've never told you this, but I've been thinking of adopting a child." I tell him.

"But Alex--"

"Alex isn't our own. He's Alec's and Alexandra's. And he'll soon look like he's twelve with him being a hybrid, not an immortal child as I had assumed. Please, Aro." I beg. "I really want to keep her. I don't want to leave her with an uncertain future. She might die, Aro. We can't just drop her off at an orphanage. What if there's other people who want to dispose of her, Aro? What if there's other bad people? We can't leave her."

"Well..."

"Brother, you can't seriously be thinking." Caius scoffs.

Aro looks at him and sighs. "Caius, our duty as mates is to make sure our mate is happy. She clearly wants to raise this child."

"With you three being the fathers." I say.

Aro nods. "Of course. I would never leave a child without a father."

A smile appears on my face. "So...you're saying..?"

"I'm saying we'll keep the child as our own."

"Thank you! Thank you!" I grin.

"You're quite welcome. We'll leave at once. What do you think you're going to name her?" Aro asks.

"Hmm...how about Astraia?"

"Sounds perfect."

I look down at my daughter and say with a grin, "welcome to the family, princess."

The end.

AN: since a lot of you are asking how it is possible for Gabriel to escape, I will answer in AN form to avoid more confusion. There's a very, VERY important part that Felix and the rest of the Volturi forgot to do to Gabriel. It is explained in the sequel.
