I ran beside Garrett and Kate as we ran to the clearing where we would meet the Volturi. This was it. Today was judgment day. When we got there, we placed ourselves in groups, according to our covens. I was with Garrett temporarily. After this, if we come out alive, we would say our goodbyes and I would either have to find another coven or continue my nomad ways. Perhaps I wound return to Philadelphia. I did miss my birthplace.

There was a peaceful, yet unsettling silence amongst us. I knew what was going through all of our minds by just instinct: will we survive this? The silence lasted for a few more seconds until Garrett had to ruin it. Though, the words he would say next would melt my dead heart.

"If we live through this, I'll follow you anywhere, woman." he tells Kate. "As for you, Amity," I look towards him and tilt my head. "I wish you the best of luck. We had a good 226 years running together. I don't know how I stood being around you."

"You know, Garret, I don't know how I stood being around you, either." I tease back.

Tanya steps forward towards me and says, "Amity, you're welcome to join us if you'd like. We have plenty of room in our house in Alaska. We would be glad to have you."

Eleazer nods. "We would love to have you."

I shake my head. "I'm sorry, I just can't. I couldn't live to your diet. I have great respect for each one of you for your diet, but it's just not for me. I'm sorry."

"We understand," says Tanya. "But you're free to visit how many times you would like. We'll keep you updated as to where we are in case you decide to just randomly drop in."

I bow my head. "Thank you."

"Are you going to continue to roam around in America or go to other places?" asks Carmen.

I think for a moment. "I'll probably stick to America. I haven't seen my birthplace in quite some time. I wonder if my home is still there. We used to host balls with the British and American soldiers. It depended on who held Philadelphia at the time. My sister was smitten with the British Head of Intelligence, Major John Andre. Shame they never got married."

"And you were smitten with that Marie-Paul-Yves-something Lafayette." Garret mentions.

I scoff. "I was not smitten with him! I just merely liked him. It's Marie-Joseph-Paul-Yves-Roch-Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de Lafayette, by the way. Get his name right."

Garrett leans down to Kate's ear and whispers, "she says she's not smitten with him, but she remembers his full name and is defensive when I say his name wrong."

I roll my head with my eyes in annoyance. "I can hear you, you know! Vampire hearing!"

Suddenly we hear hundreds of footsteps coming towards us. The Volturi. I stand closer to Garrett's side as he tries to lighten the mood with, "the redcoats are coming, the redcoats are coming."

I giggle under my breath. "Please don't."

"But it fits the situation! They are wearing redcoats. I mean, look at them." he points.

Kate looks at him. "I swear if you just sentenced us all to death for pointing, I am so gonna electrocute your a--"

Tanya silences her. "That's enough. We need to be serious now."

I look towards the direction of the incoming Volturi and at the front were three men with their cloaks billowing behind them. Upon looking at them, I felt a pull towards them, and I whimpered in pain. What is going on with me?

Carmen looks at me with concern. "You okay? We're gonna be fine. I'm sure they won't attack us without talk."

I shake my head. "No, no. It's not that. I just felt..well, um"
