"Wrong. Do it again!" Kreese demanded

"Again"

"Come on! You look pathetic!"

"I'm trying my best" I said exasperatedly

"Your best isn't good enough. Again"

I nodded and got up. Around 5 I woke up and decided to go to the dojo. Kreese was teaching me how to do a 360 back kick. I had seen it in a movie and I really wanted to learn it. I stayed up till about midnight waiting for Johnny to call last night, but he never did. At first I got a little mad because when he says he'll call, he calls, but then I got a little worried. Maybe something happened and that's why he didn't call. My dad had come home a few minutes before I decided to go to bed. We exchanged greetings before he went to bed and fell asleep. When I got up to come to the dojo, my dad was gone again.

"Get up L/n. You're embarrassing yourself"

"I'm trying. I really am" I said out of breath

"Up! Do it again!"

I got up and got into the correct stance and tried again. I failed again and ended up falling on my ass. "I don't think I can do it. Maybe I can just try something simpler?" I asked

"Stand up" he commanded. I followed instructions and dusted myself off. "Sit on the bench and pay attention"

I walked over to the bench and looked up at Kreese, who towered over me. I opened my mouth to say something but he began speaking before me.

"You are strong." He started. "You can do this kick, it's easy."

"It doesn't see that easy" I scoffed

"Listen to me, alright? Don't talk, just listen. The moment you doubt yourself, you lose and I don't teach losers. You step onto the mat you need to be confident. You look your opponent, in this case the dummy, in the eyes and you finish them. Don't even let them think they stand a chance." He told me

I nodded my head and took in his words. "You really think I can get this down"

"I know you can"

"How can you believe that? I've fallen down like a hundred times"

"Do you trust me?"

"Yeah"

"Then believe when I say you can do it. Now go over there and don't stop until you get it"

I walked back onto the mat and squared myself off to attempt the kick. I went to do it but I hesitated and ended up hurting my ankle

"You know what you did wrong?" Kreese asked me

"I hesitated"

"You look like a pussy out there. Only pussy's hesitated and the second you do that you lose. Go again and this time don't be so embarrassing"

"I can't"

"So you're accepting defeat. You are accepting to fail to a simple trick." He said in disbelief while shaking his head. "If you're not gonna work up to your full potential, then you should just quit"

I shook my head at him and looked at the clock in the corner of the dojo. I gathered my belongings and was about to make my way to the bathroom when Kreese started speaking again

"So you are a quitter" he said in disbelief

"I'm not a quitter. I'm a winner like you said, but I have to go to school"

"Oh I see" he said before walking into his office. I entered the bathroom and got changed for school. I was going to the showers that were in the 'locker room' but it looked really dirty so I just put on deodorant and gurgled a bit of mouthwash.
