"I'M GONNA DO my own thing when we land," I say to my dad. He's in deep conversation with one of the team's strategists so waves me off with a thumbs up. He can be a bit dismissive when it gets so close to the races, even if it is just testing tomorrow, he wants everything to go as smoothly as possible. I've learned not to take it to heart.
I sit back in my seat-a few rows away from my dad-and go back to the documentary I'd been watching. It was something about penguins; I hadn't been paying attention but I hate flying, so David Attenborough was usually my designated flight companion.
