The Next Day

Neil had searched all the classrooms where Botany lectures were held, but he could not find her anywhere. Sighing, when was walking out of the corridor, he looked at the envelope in his hand & an unconscious lop-sided smile broke out on his lips. 

He had to find her! 

Inhaling a calm breathe, he put the envelope back in his jeans pocket & looked around the students so that he could ask for some help. After going through some students, he finally found out that Avni must be in the auditorium of the college, practicing for the coming up events. He quickly made his way to the auditorium once he was certain that he'd find her there. 

Entering the huge dark hall, Neil heard the beats of piano being played & spellbound, he kept moving forward to listen to it carefully. 

Seene se jo lagi hai aake, 

Khwab si duniya dikha ke,

Le chali apna bnake, ye lagan!

There she was - on the stage, lost in her trance - singing in the most soothing voice Neil had ever heard. Her eyes were closed & he could sense that she was feeling each & every lyric that left her mouth with utmost sincerity. It was not just the fact that her singing was on point but there was something magical about the way she felt & lived her passion for music - Neil noted. 

Haath mein aanchal thamaye, 

Saath mein apne bahaye, 

Aasmaano pe udaaye aaj mann!

Sitting on one of the many chairs, he observed her closely. She had beautiful eyes - he thought! Not only on the outside though, he observed that her eyes carried empathy & that she had something in her which made her look at things differently when it came to admiring them. She had ways to make things beautiful, the letter being the clear testimony, she made him feel beautiful! 

Waada koi ankaha,

Yaara, Tu hai sun rha!

And, at that moment, he thought that she was voicing each & every thought of his out loud. It indeed felt like an unsaid promise was being kept by her. A promise to always wish well for him! It was not like he had not been approached by girls before, he was! But the fact that she chose to silently like & admire him when she thought that he was with someone meant that her feelings were selfless. Something that he hadn't really witnessed before! 

Thaam lo, toote na dhaage,

Kya pta ab kya hai aage!

Thaam lo, dil tezz bhaage, 

Chaand taaron se bhi aage!

Exactly what he wanted to say! To hold on! For he didn't know what was to come in the future & he wasn't sure if he could give her what she deserved - love! 

The song had come to an end but Avni was still in her trance, she was scribbling something down in her notepad when Neil ascended the stairs to the stage & walked up to her. He cleared his throat to gain her attention but in vain, she was still busy with her noting. 

N - Ah, Avni? - he said slowly which finally broke Avni's trance & she looked up at him. 

Avni's eyes widened in surprise & some other emotion that Neil couldn't really decipher but he patiently waited for her to say something. However, Avni did not intend to say anything, it seemed. She was just looking at him with her head raised while her hands were still in a writing position on her notepad.
