“Alright,” James agreed. “We need to track down Jacob. But how? Are we going back to our old ‘visit each Martinez store’ plan?”

“There’s no point in doing that,” Doreen disagreed, shaking her head. “I mean…we got as much as we could by hanging around those stores. I don’t think there’s any point in going back there.”

“Yeah,” Casey agreed, flopping down on the couch. Nolan sat down next to her. Casey inched away. Nolan inched closer. “We found little slips of paper taking us to that coffee house, and look at what happened with that—we got ambushed. There are probably a bunch of other booby traps just waiting for us to fall right in.”

I bit down my lip, thinking. So hitting each Martinez store was ruled out. But where could a rebellious gang possibly be holding their hideout in New York City? And what were we supposed to do to get closer to them?

Everyone sat in silence for a moment, thinking.

“Are there any weapons factories in New York?” Cody asked suddenly.

James gave him an incredulous look. “Weapons making factories?”

“Yeah,” Cody said. “Like an artillery factory?”

“In New York?” James questioned in disbelief. “Uh, I highly doubt it. Why?”

Cody didn’t answer. He was already pulling out his phone, tapping away on it furiously. James sent Nolan a questioning look, as if Nolan knew what was going on in his best friend’s mind, but Nolan just shrugged in reply.

Casey stared. “Wait, why are we talking about weapons factories again…?”

“Ha!” Cody declared all of a sudden, triumphantly holding up his phone. “There are three factories in New York city that are specialized just for making weapons.”

Three?

I got up and went to look over his shoulder at the phone. “That’s weird,” I mused. “I don’t know why we have so many weapons factories in one city? Plus, our military bases aren’t in New York, so it doesn’t fit.”

“Exactly,” Cody said. He looked at Doreen. “Remember when we broke into that Martinez store? In the back, there were boxes and boxes just filled with guns and other weapons. Why on earth would a Martinez store—a store for selling electronics—be storing weapons in the back? And not just a couple guns,” He said animatedly, looking at all of us. “I’m talking boxes and boxes filled with W64’s. And, if they’re making so many, they’ve got to be manufactured somewhere around, right? My dad told me that when you ship anything that’s long distance would undergo a lot of security and clearance.”

Nolan gasped. “So the factory that’s producing these weapons…”

“—Has got to be somewhere around here!” Cody breathlessly finished for him. “It doesn’t make sense for there to be an ammunition factory in New York when our military base is way down south. And plus, shipping that many artilleries would never make it through security, at least not without making headlines.” He paused. “That’s what I’m trying to say: Maybe, if we could look into those factories, we could see where all the weapons are being made and shipped. Jacob can’t be sending allof his weapons to just one store. And…I don’t know about you, but having three factories for the same type of production in one city seems kinda sketchy to me.”
