Many old people involve themselves in solving brain games with an expectation that their working memory would improve. According to researchers, it is possible that a person can be good at a certain task but the enhanced skill does not guarantee an improvement in overall performance. For instance, a senior can be very good at crossword puzzles, but it would not help him or her to remember the keys he/she left.

Brain games are entertaining but they cannot protect old people from cognitive disorders. The alternative solution for mental improvement suggested by researchers is aerobic exercise and a good night's sleep. There is a lot of evidence that shows physical exercises and a good night's sleep change the brain structure beneficially and boosts its memory more.

So, guys better turn the music on and dance with your grandparents than giving them a newspaper with a crossword on it.
