Kathie Jane

Cade never left Ethan's side the whole time Chassie was in labor. Ethan clung to him for comfort and fell asleep in his arms. His daddy was with Chassie and it pleases me how he automatically turned to Cade in his absence.

By the time we were finally allowed in Chassie's private room, it was already six o'clock in the morning. The lack of sleep should have made us all groggy but we were just too elated to even crave sleep.

Chassie has given birth to a healthy baby girl, much to Ethan's chagrin. He refuses to look at his little sister at first but relented when she woke up and graced us all with her cute face.

Georgina Lewis Forester.

I held her close to my chest and regarded an exhausted Chassie. Nathan was sitting on her side, Ethan on the other. "You guys, she's so cute," I enthused.

Cade chuckles beside me, running his fingertip over the baby's cheek.

Chassie laughs, a tad exhausted but happy. "I'm hoping this time she looks like me."

"We can always make more if she turns out to look like me," Nathan quips, leaning to her ear and gave it a feathery kiss.

Ethan pursed his lips. "I want the next baby to be a baby brother."

Cade ruffles his hair. "A little brother is great. But in the meantime, Georgina here needs his big brother."

Ethan's frown flattened. "She does?"

"Yes. She will need a lot of protecting from you being the hero that you are."

His arms he flailed over his chest slid back to his sides. "Maybe I can get used to her."

Chassie touches Cade's arm and mouthed her thanks.

"You two better head home and catch some sleep. The first flood of visitors will more likely to be here at seven and I don't think that much noise is good for sleep-deprived people," Nathan says with a hint of a smile.

"You just want your little family all to yourself." I walked around the bed, to him. To his open arms waiting for little Georgina.

Nathan feigned shock. "I would never try to get rid of my sister in-law."

I giggled, securing the baby to his arms.

My always authoritative and resilient brother in-law melted at the sight of his daughter. He plants a soft kiss on her little forehead and murmurs, "my little Georgie."

I couldn't help but smile. Cade and I left the family. I would usually get a stab of yearning whenever I see my sister's family, but not this time. Not when Cade was filling the spaces between my fingers with his own, mirroring the same love-struck grin I have.

"Do you want to grab coffee?" He asks as we exited the hospital. "There's a coffee shop right across the street."

"Yes, please." I beamed.

We crossed the road, still hand in hand. We were the first customers inside given the time of day. Cade presses a kiss on my forehead. "I'll go get our orders. You choose us a booth."

I nodded, blowing him a kiss.

He chuckles.

Moments later, Cade joined me in our booth. I was expecting him to take the seat across me but, to my surprise, he slid right next to me.

"Oh. I thought you'll be more comfortable across me." I took the coffee he laid in front of me and took my first sip.

"Why?" He nibbled on his cupcake – as usual, strawberry cupcake with whipped cream frosting.

I picked up my blueberry muffin and shrugged. "I thought you might like the space."

His arm wrapped around my shoulders. "Space is the last thing on my mind right now, Kathie Jane." He kisses my hair.

I shifted uncomfortably and scoot back a couple of inches so I can look at him. "Cadey, I haven't washed my hair in two days "

He merely raised an eyebrow. "Is that supposed to change how I feel about you?"

"Did it change?" I ask, playing along.

"No. I still love you."

I blushed.

"How's the muffin?" He takes a sip of his vanilla coffee.

I smiled. "It's great. Here. Taste." I held the muffin to his mouth.

He happily obliged.

"And the cupcake?"

Cade shakes his head. "Not sweet enough."

"Oh, that means edible for me." I grinned and took a bite lf his cupcake. My nose scrunched. "Too much frosting." I reached for the napkin and dab the corners of my mouth clean.

Cade watches me in amusement.

"Did I get it all?"

"No. You still have some whipped cream on you." His eyes crinkled.

I reached for another napkin. "Where?" I swiped it over my bottom lip. "Did I get it?"

He shakes his head. "Still there."

"Do you have a mirror?"

Cade gave me a look.

I giggled. "Okay. I'll just use my phone then."

Cade clasped my wrist, stopping my hand from reaching for the pocket of my sweatpants. "Let me help you."

He tugged and then his mouth was on mine. The feel of lips was too divine I gave in instantly. There was the faintest graze of his tongue on my top lip where the whipped cream must've been.

I clawed on the front of his shirt. We shouldn't probably kiss in public. Maybe, but it just feels too good to be claimed.

When we pulled apart, Cade gave me another soft kiss and smiled. "All clean."

I toyed with the button of his shirt. "I love you, Cadey."

His blue eyes darkened. "I love you."
