"I shouldn't have let her go" A voice interrupted my sleep.
As I attempt prying my eyes open, my head hurts.
"Mum?"
"Yeah honey."
"What happened?"
"Madison, she lured you away from the group. You got scared and had an attack."
That's when the memories return to me, how Madison tricked me into going further into the woods and stole my map.
"I shouldn't have let you go."
She repeats."Mum, I'm fine now."
"No, you're not. This is the second time you've had an attack since senior year begun."
"Mum I'll be fine"
"When did you get here?"
"Yesterday, you've been unconscious for a couple of hours now."
"When are we returning?
"Tomorrow."
"The twins?"
"They're worried sick, they're waiting for you to come home."
"And Madison?"
"She's gonna be disciplined when we get back."
After some minutes, my eyes start feeling heavy before I welcome the darkness.
****
"Omg Kayla, are you ok?"
Lila comes up to me engulfing me in a hug."Yeah I'm fine."
"Madison really needs to be disciplined."
"She will."
Luca muters, speaking for the first time since we arrived."Guys drop it, it's fine."
"No, it's not. What if they didn't find you in time?"
"Luca, it's ok."
He doesn't say anything just stomps out of the living room.
I find Luca sitting on the porch, taking a seat beside him we remain in a comfortable silence.
"I don't want you getting hurt Kayla."
"I know"
"Kay, she deserves to be punished. You could have died and...."
"Wait, are you crying?"
"No, something's in my eye."
"You are"
"Ok fine, you got me. You're my best friend ok? I can't imagine losing you."
"You won't lose me, I promise I'll be fine."
"Promise?"
"Promise"
We stayed out for a few more minutes before heading inside.
"Kayla I think we should leave, you need to rest."
"It's fine, let's watch a movie instead."
I suggestThe movie's is going on when Lila asks;
"The new girl found you right?"
"Fiona?"
"Yeah, you didn't know she was the one who found you?"
"No"
"Well she did, that's how you were rushed to the hospital."
"Oh"
We stopped talking, but continued watching the movie.
"Kayla, we're gonna head home now. See you at school, love you."
