The Lunchroom - Hayes Grier Imagine for MacKenzie

“Look how gorgeous he is!” I slurred, my chin in the palm of my hand, as I daydreamed, staring at none other than Hayes Grier.

“Who?” my best friend Gracie asked, who was currently stuffing her face with cookies from the lunchroom. I can admit, they are good… but Hayes is better.

“Hayes Grier,” I said lovingly. I’d been crushing on the boy hard ever since I moved to North Carolina. And seeing him every day at school was a privilege. My locker was seventeen down from his… yes I counted.

“You should go talk to him!” Gracie said with a full mouth of cookies.

“No! I can’t do that!” I screamed.

“Shh! Why not?” she asked.

“Because… b-because… I’ll em-embarrass myself!” I said, looking at her with all seriousness.

“No, you won’t! Look, I’ll go talk to him… and tell him how cool you are and then you can come over and talk to him. He’ll love you! I promise,” she said, giving me a reassuring look.

“I don’t know, Gracie…” I started.

“Great! I’m going now. Wait for the signal!” She said happily, pushing up from her seat and skipping towards Hayes’ table.

“Wait! Gracie!” I tried to stop her. But she was unrelenting.

I saw the perky girl arrive at his table and give a happy smile and wave to Hayes and his not-as-attractive friends. She was talking… using her hands a lot, giggling and Hayes just smiled and nodded back. Soon enough, Gracie pointed over to me. My face turned tomato red. Hayes followed her finger and spotted me, a smile emerging on his cheeks. He motioned for Gracie to lean down. She did, and he whispered something in her ear. She nodded at him and gave me little thumbs up as Hayes stood up and walked over to my table.

“Hey,” he said happily. A couple girls around us gasped, seeing Hayes talk to someone outside of his normal group of friends.

“H-hi!” I said, giving an awkward smile.

“So your friend, Gracie, talked to me,” he began. I nodded, smiling over at my best friend.

“Yeah, she’s cool,” I added, urging him on.

“Yeah, she is, but I would rather have you,” he said smoothly, blue eyes piercing mine.

“Oh,” I blushed, looking down at his hands.

“You’re so pretty,” he whispered, leaning in towards me.

“Th-th-thanks,” I stuttered.

“Of course,” he said. “We should hang out sometime.”

I nodded vigorously. And before I knew what was happening, Hayes snuck a small little kiss on my lips and walked away.
