Indhu's POV

"Indhu, ready ayyava?" my mom calls up the stairs.

"Indhu, are you ready?" my mom calls up the stairs.

"A ma. Almost aypoindi." I reply, after I pull the zipper of my top up.

"yea, almost mom." I reply, after I pull the zipper of my top up.

"Sare, thvaraga ra."

"Ok, come fast."

We are going shopping. Because my marriage is fixed. Unfortunately. Surya is coming to the mall directly. We are going as a family. My best friends are joining as well.

****

I sit quietly in the mall as my mom and sister do the actual shopping. I'm in the middle, and my dad is there as well, though he isn't doing anything. Neither is Taman. My friends are strewn all over the shop looking for sarees of their own.

The person pulls out a saree that my mom tells him to. I just stare at them, hating every single one of them.  After about an hour, my mom and sister finish shopping for me when Surya walks over.

"Agamma. Indhu neeku ivi nachinaya?" he asks.

"Wait. Indu, do you like these?" he asks.

I shake my head no.

"Nachinvi thesuko Indhu. Pelli kuturki, nachaledanta. Thee babu thee." Surya says.

"Take what you like Indhu. The bride doesn't like them. Keep showing them." Surya says.

Hm. maybe he isn't...i don't know anymore.

After shopping, we go back home, me still depressed about this marriage.

****

It's been two week since shopping, and today is my wedding day.

"Indhu, kudurga kurcho." Shwetha, my sister-in-law says to me.

"Indhu, sit still." Shwetha, my sister-in-law says to me.

I sit still, and she finishes my hair. After getting ready, we walk out into the main hall. I carry a coconut in my hand, as is tradition, and sit down next to Surya, my to-be husband.

The priest says some prayers, and he then gives Surya a yellow thread to tie around my neck. He ties the sacred three knots. We get up, my saree tied to his dhoti. We walk around the sacred fire 7 times, finishing the ritual. After, the priest takes us outside. The time is 9:03 at night, and he tells us to look in a specific star, called the Arundhati. We both look at it, and we finish the marriage.

I am married...
