MARKO

"What were you doing there?" I ask David.
It took a while, but soon they came home, drenched in blood from tonight's dinner.

Dwayne and Paul went to wash up, but I stopped David before he could leave again.
I need these questions answered now.

David rolls his eyes. "Can't this wait? The blood is becoming sticky."
"This won't take but a minute," I point out, and he sighs.

He takes a seat on his wheelchair, on leg propped over the arm rest.
"I was out looking for dinner, and she just happened to be there."

"You're lying," I bite, and he smirks.
What is this man's game?

He stares at me for a moment, a dangerous smile on his face.
"Is that...love I see in your eyes?"
I don't reply.
He stands up, approaching me, leaning close into my face.

"I had some suspicions that you like her. I mean, why wouldn't you? She's gorgeous. Long silky hair...smooth skin," he licks his lips, "sweet tasting blood."

My hands clench into fists.
"Why were you really there?" I ask through clenched teeth.
He scoffs, ignoring my question.
"Though I must admit, you're stupider then I thought, falling for that human whore-"

I punch him square in the jaw.
David falls to the ground, bringing a hand to where the pain hurts most.
There's a little blood on his fingers, and he smirks, laughing as he licks it.

He flashes a dangerous look to me, one that used to scare me.
But not now.
I'm not afraid of him. Not anymore...

He rises to his feet, smiling a sick smile.
"Didn't know you had it in you," he brushes his coat off, "pretty dangerous to do that. Especially to me."

"Fuck off," I bite, flashing a fang.
He glares at me. "I'd watch your mouth if I were you boy," he points a finger in my face, "don't forget, I was the one who made you who you are now. Without me, you'd be NOTHING."

Yes, he was the one who saved me.
But he did not make me who I am.
I chose to be this way, to act this way.
He has no credit for the man I am right now.

David backs up. "You needn't worry about her. I won't hurt a hair on her head." He bows, "you have my word."

I don't believe him.
But, I let him go.
He walks past me just as Dwayne approaches me, all fresh and clean.

Dwayne glances at me. "You alright?"
I sigh, "yeah."
But I can't lie, not in front of Dwayne.

Out of all of them, he's know me better.
"You don't need to lie," he says, "what's up?"

I look down at the ground.
"You promise not to tell?" I ask.
He nods.
I look at him. "Luna is my Mate."

Dwayne's eyes widen and his lips part.
"Oh...shit."
"Yeah."
"I mean...shit," Dwayne says again, which makes me glare at him.

Not even a word of advice? Or a 'that's great, I'm happy for you'?
Jesus.

"That's pretty crazy."
"I guess," I mumble, not really agreeing with him.
I'm actually really happy that it's Luna.
She's such an amazing girl...
I couldn't be more luckier.

Dwayne stares at me for a moment before his hand reaches out and is placed on my shoulder.
"Hey, you know I'm really glad you found your Mate. That's...a beautiful thing."

I stare up at him.
He's smiling, but it's a sad, faraway smile.
I lick my lips. "Thanks."

"Yeah," Dwayne exhales, "you know I'm there for you, right?"
"Yes."
"So if you ever need me, or need any help, I'm with you," he touches my chest, "you're my brother."

I smile softly.

Soon, Dwayne leaves and I stand alone.
David's words fill my head.
He's lying, big time.

I clench a fist.
Brother or not, my Mate comes first.
And I swear, if David does anything to hurt her, I will make sure he never touches Luna again.

I need to be more watchful of him, of Luna.
He cannot get the chance to be alone with her again.
I need to protect my Mate.
At any cost...
