"If you had something of value, something you held as the uttermost pride, your joy, and your life, what would you do to keep it safe?

"THE ORIGINS OF the earth begin with that of The Designer," Mr. Ogustus began after we had all settled in. He was standing in his favorite spot, leaning against his large desk once more, and I shelved that picture in my mind, knowing I would miss it next week.

"Creation formed from the infinite imagination of a being so great everything we marvel at is a mere physical representation of a thought," he explained.

He paused, both hands on his cane taking this time to do a quick sweep of us, while I stared at the topic he had already jotted down before any of us had arrived to Class this morning. We were still talking about Deceptions but he had moved on to a further category, the Vampires and Demons which was by far the most interesting topic under that of Deceptions if you ask me.

"And so we lived, brought into this world to thrive and to experience the gift of life," he spoke as if it was the most beautiful thing which undoubtedly it was, he adjusted his position his tone becoming more serious.

"I shall ask a question," he began, his gaze rolling over each face, "If you had something of value, something you held as the uttermost pride, your joy, and your life, what would you do to keep it safe?" he asked.

Half of the hands in the class went up, but Mr. Ogustus pointed to a new hand, of a girl who was seated a few rows back in Claire's aisle. She had beautiful blond hair and a set of deep cocoa eyes. In all honesty, she had no remarkable features other than her height that would have made her stand out, and yet somehow she was attractive. I spotted a gold band around her wrist on her raised hand which lowered as Mr. Ogustus called her name.

"What is it you would do, Yekaterina?"

"Protect it," she answered blankly, her accent deep which made me realize she was definitely from Russia or one of the Slavic countries. Her tone was silky and flawless too, and I could see that a good number of boys had dutifully turned to fully look at her, unlike they did whenever Claire or even Naaka asked a question.

"And how would you protect it?" Mr. Ogustus pushed on further, folding his arms as he adjusted his position.

"In a safe, a safety deposit box in some bank, or hired security," she trailed off shrugging, "it depends on its size basically," she finished.

"Exactly," Mr. Ogustus quipped, a twinkle in his aging eyes, "it depends on its size," he repeated her answer, "if it was a mere trinket, a safe would probably be best isn't that right Yekaterina?"

She nodded, propping her chin in her hand she leaned in. How was she pretty again?

"But what if it was larger, like a dog or a pet? One would usually hire some sort of caretaker, and what if one's prize possession was his family? Then one would higher full security, maybe even add a butler to attend to his family's needs, a caretaker for his estates, a nanny for his kids, and anything else they would so have needed to be kept both safe and comfortable," he explained, "But what if one's prize possession was a whole planet?" he finished.

I thought about this for a moment. Trying to patch things up together. He was talking about a protection system for a whole planet, for each of his creations. For humans and any other aspect of creation.

"The protection system of the planet earth was one so intricately designed, it is impossible and complete folly to begin to think that all this could have happened with a big bang, but even if it did, the power that we shall marvel at is what caused that bang. There is a system to everything Younglings, there is nothing that is as it is without some factors being pushed onto play, into a rhythm, into a system," he explained.

He walked towards us, standing in front of the class.

"To guard his first creation, the designer placed guardians, beings with better strength, endurance, power, and even a little bit of magic. They were different guardians selected for different parts of the creation, a whole system built to ensure the earth stays in its perfection," he explained.

Hobbling to the board he wrote a few things down, the marker screeching on the whiteboard. My eyes followed the swerve of my hand, watching as he drew the circle.

"This is earth," he stated, before drawing three long horizontal lines that came out of the core of the earth with a word placed at the end:

WATER-

MAN-

LAND-

"These are the main components of creation; of the planet we live on. Land that is all around us, water that we need to survive, and our fellow man. When we speak of water, we speak of lakes, rivers, ponds, streams, seas, dams, oceans, and any other kind of water body whether saltwater or fresh. When we speak of Land, we speak of the trees, jungles, woods, the birds of the air and the beasts of the field, and any other vegetation that grows between. Lastly, Man- which is self-explanatory," he added to which we all chuckled along.

"The system that protected the earth was that of the Guardians. Each of the three components of creation were different guardians. For those of Man and Land, there was a race most popularly known as the Fae, who worked hand in hand with the Elves, also known as the elders, who provided mankind with wisdom as they lived on, and the Fae kept the land, be it forests plains or woods as The Designer had created. On the other hand, in the sea, lived the mer-maidens and water spirits and even the old guardians of the Sea, the Kraken, the Leviathan, and many others," he stated.

My mind flashed back to what Gravis had told me about the bones of the great Leviathan possibly still at the bottom of the ocean that surrounded Kingsland.

"And to keep all that in order rained the Prime Guardians. They were known as different names throughout history the most famous being Angels. Other religions and mythologies refer to them as ancestral spirits or guiding spirits. These were chosen as overall guardians of the mortal race and the most powerful guardians that have ever existed." He paused, his tone becoming softer,

"So, there was a system, so there were guardians, but what happened to the world?"
