"Come on get it together," Ben silently urged himself as he made his way into class. He'd been doing this ever since that night in the club. Everything was just too confusing right now with Samantha and Jessica.

He looked up at the already full hall and spotted her in the 3rd row on his right. Just as he looked her way she caught his stare. Ben couldn't help but blush and he quickly took a seat in the front row.

"Mr Benedict, nice of you to join us so early," Dr Montgomery their Orthopedics lecturer announced sarcastically.

"I'm sorry sir, won't happen again," Ben replied feeling extremely embarrassed. Being one of the brightest students in Dr Montgomery's class regretfully made him a very noticeable character.

"I'm sure," Dr Montgomery smirked before he continued with his lecture.

Ben wasn't sure if he was being paranoid but he could feel Samantha's eyes on him and he felt like hiding underneath his seat.

Why was he being such a coward? He'd avoided Samantha ever since that night and it was getting harder and harder with each passing day. Thankfully their hospital rounds were different. At least here he could pretend to ignore her by concentrating on the lecture which he obviously wasn't doing.

How did everything become so complicated? He couldn't help but feel this was all Samantha's fault. Why did she have to tell him now? Why not one year ago when he confessed his love to her? Apart of him thought she was just being selfish and that she was afraid of losing her friend.

But what if she really did love him and she'd only now realized it? That was plausible, wasn't it?

Ben scratched his head as these questions ran through his mind. He'd accepted it along time ago that he would always love her and he had adjusted to the idea of her not loving him in return. That was why he started dating other people. He finally met someone he genuinely liked and he'd ruined it.

That night when Samantha told him she loved him, it felt like winning the lottery. It was something he'd always wanted but had never thought would happen. He couldn't control himself and when he kissed her he didn't feel guilty, it felt so right which was what scared him so much.

Feeling extremely guilty, he had avoided Jessica as well. That was until she called him and begged him to meet her at the library. She even sent him some sexy pictures of herself which tempted him even further.

He had decided then and there that he wanted to be with Jessica. Everything was easier with her, whereas trying to figure out Samantha just made his brain hurt. He wasn't sure if Samantha really meant what she said but if she was a good friend she would have to respect his decision. He would talk to her eventually, he just needed time to figure things out.

At the library he felt relaxed somehow like he'd made the right decision but everything went downhill when Jessica started kissing him. All he could see was Samantha; her icy blue eyes, her pink lips, her dark hair. And then he did the stupidest thing any guy could do, he whispered her name into Jessica's ear while they were making out.

It was no wonder Jessica wouldn't speak to him. She had screamed and accused him of having an affair with Samantha but she wasn't entirely wrong either. So now he was back to square one with no girlfriend or best friend.

The class was over within an hour and it was time for him to head to the hospital. He quickly took out his phone and texted Jessica again.

Ben flinched when a scrunched up piece of paper hit his face. What the--? He looked up to see Samantha packing her stuff. She gave him a quick smile and left the room.

Of course it was her. They used to exchange letters in class just for the fun of it. Now Ben realized sadly, it was the only way they could talk. He quickly opened the note and read it.
