Natasha was standing in the middle of the drawing room with a pale yet steady face.
When Pierre appeared in the doorway she grew flustered and he hurried to her. He thought that she would give him her hand. But instead she stopped, breathing heavily, her thin arms hanging lifelessly. She looked completely distraught.

"Peter Kirilovich -"

"Please, call me Pierre"

"Prince Bolkonsky was your friend - he is your friend. He once told me that I should turn to you."

Pierre sniffed as he looked at her, but he didn't speak. Until then he had reproached her, and tried to despise her, but now he felt such pity for her. There was no room in his soul for reproach.

"He is here now. Tell him to – tell him to forgive me."

"Yes, I will tell him to forgive you, but he gave me your letters-"

"No, I know that all is over. I know that it never can be. But still I'm tormented by the wrongs I've done him. Tell him that I beg him to forgive me for everything."

Yes I will tell him, tell him everything. But . . . but I should like to know one thing, did you love- Did you love that bad man?"

"Don't call him bad. But I don't know, I don't know at all."

She began to cry and a greater sense of pity, tenderness, and love overflowed Pierre's heart. He felt the tears begin to trickle underneath his spectacles and he hoped that no one would see.

"We won't speak of it anymore. We won't speak of it, my dear. But one thing I beg of you, consider me your friend, and if you ever need help, or simply to open your heart to someone, not now, but your when your mind is clear, think of me."

"Don't speak to me like that. I am not worth it!"

"Stop! Stop . . . stop. You have your whole life before you-"

"Before me? No, all is over for me!"

"All over? If . . . if I were not myself, but the brightest, handsomest, best man on earth . . . and if I were free, I would . . . I would get down on my knees this minute and ask you for your hand . . . and for your love."

Natasha looked at Pierre, with a much different look than before. It was a look of happiness. Natasha ran to Pierre and hugged him. Pierre froze for a second, but hugged back. She was now crying tears of joy, and she knew that now she has found someone who will always love her. Not for her looks, for her money, or for her fame, but for who she truly is. Pierre now knew that he truly loved Natasha. He had always loved her, but now he loved her more than ever. Natasha pulled away from the hug and wiped her tears away.

"I think my mind has been cleared."

"Has it?"

"Yes, and it was cleared by you."

"Natasha, always remember that I love you very, very much. You are a beautiful young woman and deserve someone who really appreciates you, not just because of your beauty on the outside, but the inside as well."

"Pierre I wish I could stay with you forever."

Natasha hugged Pierre again, not wanting to let go. Pierre hugged her once again and leaned his head on top of her's. Natalie looked up and their foreheads touched. She saw Pierre's eyes brighten up for the first time in many years. She leaned in and softly pressed her lips against his. He stood there shocked for a few seconds, so Natasha stopped and worriedly look up at Pierre. He looked back down at her and smiled, which made her smile as well. She leaned in again and so did he. Pierre rested his hands on Natalia's waist as she put her arms around his neck. They kissed for a little while longer and soon spread apart again. Natalie began to stumble because she was still very weak, so Pierre picked her up bridal style and brought her to the living room where Maria was. Maria looked at the two, confused. He layed down Natasha on a couch and sat right next to her head, stroking her hair. He looked up at Maria who saw Pierre's glittering eyes and found out that he was in love with her Natalia. Although she was shocked, she wasn't mad. She was actually happy. Pierre would be able to save the family by bringing them fortune, he is a wonderful man, and would be able to take good care of Natasha. Maria pulled him out if the room to talk to him.
