It was a dark night.

A night full of darkness.

A night where nobody knew what it held and what it may give.

Maybe it was happiness.

Or sadness.

Or grief.

Nobody knew but Aliyah. She was confused.

It didnt seem like a normal night to her. To her this night held a very big storm. A storm that may kill someone.
But it wasnt raining. It hadnt rained in long time. Like everybody else, she was longing for the rain. She loved the smell of soil after rain. She loved the coldness after rain. She loved the warmth that rain gave. She just loved the rain. To her, it was sins being washed away. The rain cleaned the earth from the sins, purified people and made them totally happy.

Well, today at this dark cold night, she was longing for the rain.

Before she knew it, she heard some commotion and noise downstairs. Picking up her hijab, she walked downstairs to figure out where the noise came from.

She least expected to see what she saw. Hands were raising, bodies were moving, mouths were yelling, facial  expressions were showing pure anger and discomfort.

Coming downstairs, she heard the yelling and she knew very well who the voice belonged to.

"I took you in, sheltered you, gave you food but what you did to me was just so opposite!" Khalif yelled.

"Who told you I was happy here?" Malyun replied back.

Khalif just stared at his sister, his mouth slightly opened and his eyes held sadness. He least expected to say she was unhappy in his home.

"Why? What made you want to separate my bestfriend from me? Why?" Khalif asked quietly, his voice so low that Aliyah had to strain to hear him.

Malyun scoffed.

"Revenge Khalif. Revenge!" She replied coldly.

"What?" Astonished, Khalif asked.

"Dont pretend Khalif, just drop it. Infront of your wife and your daughter, you pretend you dont know anything huh?"

Khalif's eyes went around the room only to meet with his daughter's. He thought she was asleep by now. Aliyah didnt remove her eyes but maintained her contact with her father. Then, slowly her lips twitched up into a small smile passing some kind of a message where only the father-daughter seemed to understand. Slowly, a faint smile creeped up on Khalif's face the slowly turned his eyes towards his beloved wife. She too had a message for him and he seemed to understand that too.

"Remembered how mama always seemed to choose you over me in a lot of circumstances? Or you have forgotten that too."

Nor did Khalif nor his wife understood.

"You broke me Khalif, you took everything away from me. You even took my child from me!" She said bitterly.

His eyes went round. Guilt started creeping up in his heart. He still couldnt forget what he did 20 years ago. Seems like his sister didnt forgive him yet.

Khalif was holding his bat while playing cricket. It was not normal for a somali kid to play cricket but he did. Maybe it was because his friends were Indians, he didnt know any of that. All he knew was that he loved playing cricket and he enjoyed every minute of it as it was his favourite game.
