Jamie's Pov

We made our way to the cafeteria while Kaylin went on about some girl and how he almost got lucky.I stared ahead and just pretended to listen like I always did. Although when the sound of his voice was no longer annoying me I turned to look at him but he was gone. I looked down the hall only to find Kaylin all over some girl.
"He can't be controlled",Adam's voice was knowing.
"Look who's talking", I shrugged.
"You're not still angry with me are you?",Adam asked frowning.
"No man, I mean I do hate what you did but I could never hate you",I explained.
" Who said anything about hating me?", he laughed
"According to Penelope, Mia does", I laughed.
" Oh you don't have to convince me, I already know that. "
"You're going to be at my game on Friday right?", I asking changing the subject.
" Yes, my boy's playing first line. Aria and I will definitely be there", Adam said eagerly but then realised what he had just said.
"Aria? Are you two a thing now?", I asked instinctively.
" No, we just hang I guess. "
"Hang or bang?", I laughed.
" Shut up man", Adam laughed naturally.
"Whatever man, you know I'm funny. "
"The funniest, oh I meant to ask how's your mom, I saw her the other day at the hospital. She told me she's been getting double shifts and stuff", Adam said concerned.
"She's good thanks,I think there's a lack of nurses over at city hospital so she has to work most of the shifts", I tried to explain.
"And your dad? How is he?", Adam asked more concerned than before.
"He's Satan how do you think he is? ", I smirked and shook my head.
" I'm being serious Jamie", Adam stated as if I wasn't.
"I don't know man, I overheard him and my mother talking about moving the other day and I really don't want it to come to that. We just got here", I explained.
" What? No! You guys can't leave just yet, in fact you can't leave at all. We have to finish senior year together and I have to watch you become quarterback ", Adam said proudly.
" I know man, and Mia", I shrugged which was actually the only reason I cared to stay in Oregon.
"That's crazy man, what are you going to do if it comes to that", Adam asked curiously.
" I really don't want to find out,Adam.I really don't. "

....

I sat at the kitchen counter trying to recall all the assignments I had due while Jonah was sleeping, it was the only time I had peace. He was the most annoying child in existence, I wish he didn't exist.
Jared was upstairs and I could hear him listening to his EDM music which I hated. What's the point of music with no lyrics? Lyrics were everything. The story. The emotion of the music. I sighed.
Jared and I were so different, but I guess that's why we're brothers. Our differences make us who we are.
I stood up realising that I could no longer hear the screams of Jonah the devil worshiper.

"The children aren't home yet?", my father's voice echoed and I heard the front door close.

" They should be, it's quite late", my mother's voice was soft when she spoke.

I glanced down at my watch, I didn't even realise it was time for them to be home and I didn't know he was fetching her today either.

"I need to speak with you, it's important",he said sternly.

I kept silent so I could listen to what he was about to say.

"Is that why you fetched me today Grayson? ", I heard her ask him.

Silence.

" Is it about your relocation? "

"We'll discuss that over dinner, I'm taking you out. I'll leave money with the children to get take out", he replied.

My mother entered the kitchen.

" Jamie, how was school? ", she said not expecting to see me, she kissed me on the forehead to hide her surprise.

"Hey, mom. It was eventful", I smiled a little.

" Take care of your brothers tonight ", I heard my father's voice and then he entered the kitchen while loosening the tie around his neck.

" Are you guys going out? ", I inquired.

" Yes, I'm taking your mother to dinner, you guys can order pizza or something."

"Okay."

"That will be all", my father said as he turned to leave the kitchen.

I took a deep breath and followed him not turning to let my mother know anything. He was headed to his study but he must have realised I was trailing him because he turned and we came face to face. I noticed how alike we looked.

"Would you like a word, Jamie?", he asked uninterested.

"Yes, actually if you don't mind", I replied clearing my throat.

"I don't have much time boy, I have much to do", he said in a serious tone.

"I just wanted to let you know that the first game of the season is on Friday, I'm playing first line", I shrugged.

"First line?"

"Yes, I'm officially an Ashwood Dragon, I was hoping you'd come to the game", I smiled.

He was quiet. I couldn't read the expression on his face. It was as if he wanted to say something but he couldn't. It took him a moment, he looked down and then spoke.

"I was an Ashwood dragon once. My father had a temporary job here in Ashwood so we lived here for a while. I only finished my eleventh grade year at Ashwood but it was the best experience of my life."

"Seriously?", I asked in shock.

" Yes, I was the quarterback. I got offered a scholarship after my final year but I decided to apply for the national Guard. "

"Is that why you wanted me to go to Ashwood? "

"I'll see if I can make it for the game", my father said as he turned and disappeared into his study.
