I sat at work, coughing and wheezing when I could, making sure the customers on the phone could not hear me. I've had this terrible sore dry throat for the past few days now so all of co-workers were used to it, some were concerned but I assured them time and time again that I'd be okay.
During a few of these coughing fits I've, for lack of better words, coughed things up. Normally it was just phlegm, sometimes it was bits of food that didn't complete the journey to my stomach. It was one of those coughing fits that got me sent home so I could go to the hospital, my manager happened to be looking over my shoulder to see what I was doing when I coughed up a bit of flesh. She got alarmed and thought I coughed up a piece of my throat. It wasn't mine but like I said, sometimes bits of food don't complete the journey.
