A/N- I was going to make make some smut but chickened out 😗

As everyone flew through the Ultra Wormhole, only once he was certain that his friends couldn’t see did Ash allow his tears to fall. No matter how many times he had said goodbye to Pokémon friends, it never stopped hurting. But as heartbreaking as it was to leave Poipole behind, just like with the others, he knew it was the right thing to do. Because that world was Poipole’s home. It was its home long before Ash became a part of its life. And it left that home to find help. It was its mission; its destiny. Which was now complete. And it had a new destiny now. Keep its world safe. Who was Ash to stand in its way?

So, like others before it, Ash let it go. He was going to be sad for a while. He would mourn over saying goodbye to a Pokémon he loved dearly. But eventually, he would be okay. Because he knew in his heart that he would see them again. But at the same time, saying goodbye to a Pokémon felt like a stab to the heart. After spending months caring, training, raising and loving, saying goodbye to a Pokémon was always heartbreaking.

Ash gave a soft gasp as he suddenly felt Pikachu give tiny but comforting licks on his cheeks. Smiling softly, Ash nuzzled Pikachu’s cheek with his own.

“I’ll be okay, Pikachu,” he whispered. “We’ll be okay.”

“Pi,” Pikachu chirped.

Once everyone got back to Alola and gotten over the awe of seeing the Blinding One shining, Rotom Dex eagerly began to explain everything to Lusamine, Kukui and Burnet, from arriving in Poipole’s world to the incredible Z-Moves Ash and Gladion had performed with Solgaleo and Lunala.

As it did, the adrenaline the Ultra Guardians and Pokémon had experienced over the previous two days turned into exhaustion. They all looked so worn out that Kukui took one look at them and said that they were going to spend the rest of the day and night resting at the Pokémon school due to it being closed for the Manalo Festival.

Lusamine happily agreed to the idea before going off to contact Mallow’s, Lana’s, Kiawe’s and Sophocles’ parents. At the same time, Kukui and Burnet went off to organise pyjamas, toiletries, blankets, pillows, food and entertainment while the kids and the Pokémon went over to the school.

About an hour later, Kukui’s classroom was free of desks and was now arranged for everyone to have a space to lie down in, along with the Ride Pokémon who had refused to leave their riders’ side. The rest of the day was spent lounging around the classroom, alternating between watching movies, playing board games and dozing. Eventually, the sun set and Burnet surprised them with pizzas and ice-cream sundaes from a little Unovan restaurant located on Ula’ Ula Island. After quietly eating, the kids and Pokémon got ready for bed and fell asleep instantly, except for Ash.

Ash sighed, still thinking about Poipole. He couldn’t understand why he was so heartbroken about leaving Poipole behind. He had said goodbye to Pokémon before. There was Haunter, but they didn’t get a chance to fully bond so that separation didn’t hurt. There was Primeape and Squirtle but they were in training. Also, Ash still wrote letters to Officer Jenny and Rebecca to stay in contact with Squirtle and Primeape. Saying goodbye to Lapras was rough but Ash had made a promise that once they found Lapras’ family, then he would let Lapras go. Saying goodbye to Pidgeot, Greninja and Goodra was also painful but they wanted to protect their homeland; Pidgeot; the Pidgey forest, Goodra; the marshes and Greninja; Kalos. And there was Butterfree but he had fallen in love. And Larvitar but Ash never caught him. Solgaleo but he was a legendary Pokémon who was looked after Alola. And Aipom but he gave her to Dawn who allowed Aipom, now Ambipom, to become a ping-pong champion. Every single one of those goodbyes hurt, so why did saying goodbye to Poipole hurt more?
