TRIGGER WARNINGS: Death, murder, swearing, grief, (lack of) food,

So this is a hunger games AU. Peter still has his powers but nobody knows. They live in district 13 and even though they never had participated in the hunger games I'm going to have it that way anyway. I know that it the series a mocking jay is the sign of rebellion but in this it's going to be spiders. Also I know that kids over the age of 14 were turned into soldiers but I'm not gonna have that in this book. A lot of this most likely won't be accurate as I don't exactly remember a lot of stuff.

Important please read^

I woke up to the sound of birds chirping. Today was the big day. The day everybody had been nervous for, especially the just turned twelve year olds.

It was the hunger games.

I had grown up watching the hunger games every year. At first I was a huge fan, but that was when I didn't understand that actual people were dying.

Now that I'm seventeen I dread it. I hate watching people get killed just because the capitol loves it.

If you weren't the capitol, you were starved and mistreated. Almost anything you did could be punishable by death.

Today is going to be worse for the reaping, because this year my little sister Morgan could be drawn. I would rather die than let her get thrown into battle.

The worst part is that I can't even volunteer for her. The tributes from each district have to be one girl and one boy. So I can't even help her.

"Peter, I'm scared." Morgan said with tears pricking in her eyes.

"You'll be okay. I'm seventeen and haven't been drawn once. You'll never go up okay?"

Morgan nodded. I sighed and walked we walked over to the living room. We weren't as poor as the others in our district thanks to our dad. He has amazing building skills and people pay him just to make things for them.

Our house is slightly bigger than others and that's because Dad built our house with the help of Mom.

"Your mother is waiting for you two so hurry up. You won't like Pepper when she's angry." My dad said, trying to save our asses from an angry mom.

Aunt May gave us a threatening looking that basically told us to go before we get in trouble.

We quickly scurried over to our mother so we could get ready for the reaping.

You were supposed to look your best for the reaping. It some districts it's considered an honor to be drawn. But here in district thirteen it's considered a death sentence.

Instead of clapping and cheering, the people drawn for the hunger games would get a moment of silence knowing this would probably be the last time they'd ever step foot back home.

After we got our clothes on we presented ourselves to our father and aunt.

"Look at my beautiful niece and nephew." May said lovingly.

It just sickened me; Having to dress up for death. My parents and aunt are at the age where they don't get drawn for the reaping anymore.

"A handsome young man and a beautiful princess I've raised." our dad smiled. It is the most fake smile I've ever seen. I wonder why he still smiles- tries to at least- even when he knows one of his children could be picked at any moment for death.

It's no secret that the adults in district thirteen often speak of rebellion. We even tried one time and we were cut off from supplies for a couple of months just to learn our lesson.
