After that event, Clytia decided to have fun. No more tears, no more cry. She had done what she could. Now she intended to enjoy the rest of her trip with her husband and the persons who still cared. Much to her surprise, her mother was present by her side almost every day. She seemed to warm up to Nolam.

The day after the incident, she invited them for lunch. Since then, she would come in the morning and take Nolam with her for the whole day. He would then come back with glitter in the eyes and a huge smile. Whenever Clytia would ask their whereabouts, they would simply smile.

Clytia was worried at first, but neither her father's issues nor the language barrier didn't seem to be a problem for them. A little sunshine in her world.
As for her father, she was supposed to have a meeting with him and her uncle in an hour. It would be the last try before her departure in the evening.

Hopefully, he would not slap her again.

*******A/N: The following conversation is in French (but it would be too long to translate it (Sorry 🤦‍♀️)************

She had been seated across her father and her uncle Alex was beside her.

"Joseph" began her uncle, "our daughter here will go back tonight. She had come to me, asking for my help to talk to you."

"She can talk for herself Alex." He answered in a low voice, glaring at her.

Clytia squirmed on her seat, her eyes refusing to leave the floor. Her uncle ignored the intervention of his brother and continued.

"You've been pretty clear on what you expect from her regarding her... marriage. After discussions, she have decided to give a chance to her husband. She won't divorce."

They remained silent. The temperature of the room seemed to have dropped of several degrees.

"Then why are you wasting my time?" finally said her father as he settled comfortably in his chair. She did not need to look at him to know that he was pissed. He was tapping the arm of his chair with his fingers. A nervous reflex she had learn to notice whenever he was on angry or annoyed.

Her father had never been a patient man. But he was loving and supporting. Unfortunately, he was not ready to unlock those traits of his personality lately.

"She is pregnant. So what do you want her to do? Abort her unborn child? Just so you can be happy! Or you have no intention whatsoever to be part of the life of your first grandchild just for something that has nothing to do with her or her husband?"

"You're pregnant!" he growled at her, finally addressing to her for the first time, startling her.

Clytia took a deep breath, then raised her head to face her father. His nostrils were flaring in anger and his eyes were red.
Gathering all her courage, she sat straight and answered. "Yes, dad. I'm pregnant."

He burst out laughing. Not a happy laugh, but a bitter one, dark and dull. "Congratulations then. You've become his whore."

"Joseph! This is not a way to talk to your daughter!" intervened her uncle shocked.

"My daughter! Humor me! She knew what line not to cross, yet she ignored it. She wants to be fucked by a white dick! Good for her."

"Enough Joseph!" interrupted her uncle, always calm and composed.

None of them were surprised by the language he was using. The angrier he was, the more prompt to vulgarities he was. It had always been that way. And it was something she had taken from him. Not that she was proud of it. She looked at her uncle. He gave her a pat on the knee before continuing.

"Our brother is dead. And nothing will bring him back. You can be your old self racist. You can hate the half of the world. But it won't bring you peace."

"I am not talking about him with you!"

"You don't have to talk. I met her husband. He is a good man. He loves her, cherishes her. He respects her. He is willing to sacrifice himself for her. This is the kind of man I want for my daughter. And I know this is the kind of man you wanted for her. Why should the color of his skin matter? Would you rather have her be with someone else who doesn't treat her right and make her miserable as long as he is black?"

"Don't you dare Alex!"

"Dare what? You know deep down that I am right! This man gave you no reason to hate him. He is nothing but polite and respectful. You know that love doesn't work like we expect it to. You more than anyone should know that!"

"Alex!" he warmed.
"Our brother got killed by the brother of your girlfriend!"

Clytia gasped at that revelation. Her eyes grew wide as she whipped her head so fast to look at her father that it could have break. It means that... no impossible! But...

"You have dated a white girl! And here you are making evil of anyone Caucasian" she whispered almost afraid of being heard.

"If I hadn't been, my brother would still be alive! Can you not understand that!" her father roared, hurt and regretful.

"No matter how sorry I am for you dad, Nolam and I have nothing to do this that story! How hypocrite of you"
"Watch your mouth Clytia."  Toned her uncle.

"But uncle..."
"No. I won't tolerate that kind of language."

She took a deep breath to contain the anger that was rising within her.
"I'm sorry." She said as she stood up and walked to her father, before kneeling in front of him.

"I understand where you come from daddy. But I won't deny a father to my kid just because you can't accept him. I would love to be able to come back here with my family and for them to get to know you. To get to know the awesome man who raised me to be the person I am today.

Someone who fight for what she wants and doesn't give up at the first issue. I want my kids to know where I come from. If you chose today to reject me, know that it will break my heart. But I won't give up Nolam. Please, do not reject me. I am begging you."

He leaned toward her and said "I'll tell you what I said to your husband: Leave my house!"
