{Jay POV}

Nik and I spent the quietly painting, well him painting and me attempting to.

"You know for someone who can draw so well i expected you to be a better painter." he laughed looking at my half ass painting of home.

"When i said i could paint too, i meant with water colors. I've never used oil paints before." I glared at him and looked at the ruined canvas in front of me. He laughed a little more before dragging me over to his own painting.

"Let me show you." he pulled me in front of him. With one arm wrapped around my waist and the other hand wrapped around my own he guided it, resting his chin on my shoulder. "You have to remember that oils take longer to dry so instead of mixing colors on the tablet you mix them on the canvas."

He went on for awhile explaining to me, this and that. His painting was so dark. I noticed a lot of his paintings were dark and isolated. The recent ones were abstracts and impressions. His older were realistic portraits of landscapes. It was noticeable that his art followed the trends of humans. Or maybe it was vice versa. I wondered as he guided me.

"I want to go home, nik." I said abruptly.

"Why? We could go anywhere." he pulled away from me.

"I miss my family, my pack.'' I walked away and threw myself onto the daybed.

"Am I not enough?" he asked, his feet glued to the floor.

"Nik," i sighed. "It has nothing to do with you."

"What is it then?" he raised his voice a bit.

"I miss waking up to the thick humidity." I closed my eyes. "The salty smell of the ocean, the sounds of critter scurrying in the tall grass, gulls calling each other, the laughter. The gross, sticky heat. Playing barefoot in the mud, water and sand with my family. I miss it all."

By now he had moved to sit on the edge of the day bed. "Would you miss me?"

"I wouldn't have to miss you if you'd come with me." I opened my eyes and sat up to look at him, "we could all go there, you, me and rebekah. You could even invite the rest of your family. You'd be happy, it's peaceful and pretty."

"The hybrids and the doppleganger?" nik asked.

"Forget them, I think twenty or so hybrids are enough. Don't you?" i caressed his jaw, praying to whoever, that he'd just agree.

"Jay..." he drew out. "I have too many enemies to just relax on a beach."

"So you're saying no?" I asked.

"How about we stop by there? Hmm spend a couple days before we go." he offered and I flopped back down.

"To what end niklaus? To what end till i can go home and watch my brother grow up? Hmm.'' I leaned away from him. "I'm sorry if this has caught you off guard but when i came with you i didn't think i would be gone forever."

"It's not going to be forever, it's only been maybe five months." he placed his hand on my knee. "No one said anything about forever."

"I know but it feels like it." I leaned back into the couch. "I never thought I could miss them all so much."

"Then we'll leave." he nodded his head. "We can leave tonight. Us, Rebekah and Elena. I can get a house near your pack and vampires aren't right in there."

"And we can stay?" I asked, "at least till they're all grown?"

"Of course, little bird." he pulled me to my feet as he stood, planting a kiss on my lips. "Go pack your room."
