{Jay's POV}

A week with my brother and pack was exactly what I needed to set my priorities straight. I have no business getting romantically involved with anybody. At least that's what i told myself repeatedly as i went through the week. What I need to be focusing on is the reason I joined up in the first place. Hybrids. Haley has been working on another one but we need to hurry it up.

And Damon calling for backup with a hunter doesn't help. Especially since he's gone after Tyler, shooting him in a church in front of the entire town. And niklaus's dumb self bringing in more hybrids just puts even more at risk. I went over my plan as I rode as quickly as possible to mystic falls. Time to kill a hunter, it thought to myself, and avoid klaus. Fuck, and keep him away from hayley. I forgot that I told her to keep working with the hybrids.

This town is fucking crazy, I thought as a pulled up to the cemetary. I could hear Damon rambling about children a bit in the distance. Poor guy, lost the girl and his best friend. And apparently is the only one super concerned with this hunter. I leaned on my bike for a little bit doing my best to not eavesdrop on his conversation.

"Did you enjoy listening to me pour my heart out like a creep?" I jumped a little at Damon's comment.

"No, I think I did a pretty good job of ignoring your sappy heart to heart." I grinned crossing my arms.

"Finally, someone who understands my need for sarcasm." he passed me the bottle of whiskey. Graciously I took a sip. "How was your visit?"

"Good, uncomfortable." I sighed, "Kids ask too many questions and then there is the constant smell of blood from scraped knees."

"I don't know how you do it. I've been babysitting for a week and they just don't get it." he crossed his arms.

"Well, I take care of literally children who have been raised supernaturally for years. Most of the super natural population here has only been in this, for what, two, three years? They just haven't accepted the reality of things yet."

"Wow, you thought that out. Didn't you?" he said with his eyebrows raised a bit.

"I had to remind myself every now and then." I rubbed my forehead a bit. "That's also why niklaus didn't just straight up kill you all and just take elena."

"Are you telling me that he was being nice?" he raised his voice a little in shock.

"Kind of, that's what most would've done." I said in a 'duh' voice.

"Fuck, alright. Let's get to the house, get another bottle to catch you up." he said.

"Did you drive here?" I asked, getting on my bike.

"Nope." he smiled and got on behind me. "I feel like a chick."

"Someones insecure with their masculinity." I said in a sing-song tone.

"Shut up and go." he said, grabbing hold of me. I revved the engine and took off to his home.

"You know the one thing I did miss while I was gone was the luxurious home y'all got." I said as I lounged on the couch by the fire and him passing me a rather large glass of whiskey.

"Yah, I'm sure it's better than huts in the mud." he said relaxed next to me, kicking his feet up.

"So this hunter. Comes in after your town council explodes. And he so far only knows Tyler is a vampire." I said lazily. "Did i miss anything?"
