Chapter 60

Pengmo stood to one side with a look of confusion on his face, "Young master, shall we go back or...?"

Pei Xuan grunted angrily before turning with a shake of his sleeves. "Who said we weren't going back!"

Pengmo was confused by his young master's sudden angry outburst but he obediently followed behind him nonetheless. As he walked he touched his chin thoughtfully, back in the capital the young master had never acted like this, ah~.

Even Pei Xuan wasn't sure how to explain the things he was feeling as he led Pengmo home. Meanwhile, Su Tang had quietly ducked into an alley and then shoved the two pieces of satin into her space before heading off toward Sujia Village with light and jaunty steps.

As she neared home, she was surprised to see Su Nuan waiting at the gate. Su Tang walked over and said, "Nuan Nuan, what are you doing here so early today? Anyway, come on inside."

Su Nuan laughed when she saw Su Tang. "I thought that Aunt Tang should be coming home at about this time, so I came over. Today, my grandparents came home and brought our family some fresh apples. My parents asked me to bring some over to you and Uncle Nuo. Also, Aunt Tang, do you have any more of those dates you gave me last time? Ever since I ate them I haven't been able to get them off my mind, Aunt Tang you have to help me relieve my cravings."

The busiest part of the farming season had already arrived, and the farmers were all reaping a bumper harvest. Madam Qin's parents were farmers who grew fruit trees in a neighboring village, so they collected some of the fruit they harvested and brought it over to give to their daughter and son-in-law.

After receiving so much fruit, Su Yongshun had asked Su Nuan to give some to Su Tang and her brother. As for the dates Su Nuan had mentioned, Su Fuhua had helped carry water from the well for the siblings a few days ago because he knew that their home was not very close to the village's well, and the siblings were still young. When he thought of that, Su Fuhua had brought two buckets of water to Su Tang and her brother while he was out carrying water for his own family.

However, Su Tang and her brother didn't actually use much water from the well. After all, there was an inexhaustible supply of spring water from the space. Because of that, Su Tang didn't bother collecting water from outside very often, only doing it occasionally for show.

But that didn't change the fact that Su Fuhua had done them a good turn by bringing them water so, in order to express her gratitude, Su Tang had taken a handful of red dates out of the space and given them to him to take back and eat. Of course, each of the dates harvested from the space farm was the size of a plum on top of being red, crisp, and sweet.

After eating some of Su Tang's red dates Su Yongshun's whole family thought that they were delicious, which was why Su Nuan asked for more since she was already at Su Tang's house.

"They aren't anything special, just some things that your Uncle Nuo happened to pick up on the mountain. But if you want to eat them, you can come and ask me anytime. You don't need to be so polite."

With those words, Su Tang led the other girl into the kitchen, took the apples out of Su Nuan's basket, and replaced them with a handful of red dates.

"I know that it's hard for Uncle Nuo to pick these kinds of fresh fruits and bring them back to eat, so how could I come and ask to eat them?" Su Nuan's face was red, she knew it was gluttonous to want to eat her aunt and uncle's red dates but they really tasted good so she asked for some anyway, which made her feel a little embarrassed.

"It's just a few dates, how rare could they be? Anyway, go back and say hello to your parents for me." Su Tang handed the basket over to Su Nuan as she spoke.

Su Nuan saw all the red dates in the basket and felt like it was really too much so she grabbed a handful and returned them to Su Tang. "You gave me too much, take some back."

"Well, you should know that there are only two people in my family so we can't eat much. Plus, recently your Uncle Nuo and I have been eating nothing but dates so we're a bit tired of them. You really sent these apples over at the perfect time. So don't worry about it, just take them and go back quickly."

Su Tang naturally didn't care about a few dates so she eventually persuaded the embarrassed-looking Su Nuan to take them away.

"Why did Su Nuan come over at this time?" Just as Su Nuan was leaving, Su Nuo returned while carrying a bundle of firewood on his back.

Su Tang knew that soon the mountain would be covered with snow and the temperature would get very cold. Because of that, the villagers would all soon start gathering their firewood for the winter in advance.

Since it was only the two of them in their home it would be hard to compete when all the adults started gathering firewood in earnest, which was why Su Tang asked Su Nuo to start collecting it now. When she asked him, the little guy was overjoyed to hear that he could also contribute to the family, and he had been gathering firewood quite happily ever since.
