Because he had always been so overshadowed by his elder sister Su Nuo, this tiny man, had firmly set his goals very early. In later years, even though Su Nuo had always thought of himself as stupid, he discovered that many of the people around him were actually much stupider than he was. That knowledge, coupled with the thought of his elder sister, always motivated him to continue working hard.

But for now, Su Nuo was still only six years old and he just looked at all the writing tools in front of him with a wide smile of happiness and expectation on his face.

Su Tang saw the little guy's eager look and chuckled before rubbing his head and saying, "Let's get started then!"

Su Nuo nodded again and looked at his sister seriously before saying, "I will definitely become a high-ranking official and protect you in the future sister!" The little guy clenched his small fists as he spoke, as if to emphasize his determination.

Seeing that he still remembered the words he had said in the past, Su Tang clenched her own fists firmly, and said, "Good, sister will wait for you!"

"Yes!" Su Nuo nodded firmly.

After that, Su Tang opened up the Three Character Classic and began teaching Su Nuo how to read one word at a time. The courtyard was filled with the sound of the little guy studying, and Su Tang soon found that her little brother was not a slow learner at all. First, she had him memorize the characters and then taught him how to write them with the brush.

After a while, when Su Tang felt her brother was on the right track and could continue to practice his writing independently, she stepped out of the room and found Baohe. She pointed at the basket she had brought with her from Sujia Village this morning and said, "Baohe, deliver this basket to..."

Baohe had been raised in a nearby small village so she was familiar with Qinghe Town and knew how to get around. She carefully remembered the place Su Tang told her about before saluting and saying, "Understood young miss, this servant will deliver it right away."

Su Tang nodded and waved Baohe off to let her know it was okay to go. Su Tang planned to concentrate more on her business in the future so she decided to leave the miscellaneous tasks like running errands and delivering things to Baohe from now on.

Su Tang spent the whole morning teaching Su Nuo to read and write and, when lunchtime came, she took him with her to the Song Residence. There, she cooked lunch and then spent the afternoon studying under Song Yi while Su Nuo continued to practice writing his characters in the next room.

The next morning, Su Tang brought Su Nuo to the courtyard again to restart the whole cycle, when the carpenter suddenly knocked on the door. He had come to deliver the first custom tool she had ordered.

It was a large and shallow box that had a wooden grid that could be put in and taken out of it. The final product wasn't very heavy, so Zhang Cuilan and her daughter were more than enough to carry it around.

The craftsmanship was good, and it had been polished to a smooth finish, so Su Tang was very satisfied and she asked the carpenter to deliver the remaining items as soon as possible. Of course, the carpenter was happy to agree.

"Ms. Lan!" When the carpenter left, Su Tang suddenly called.

Zhang Cuilan hastened to respond, "Yes, young miss?"

"Wipe down the inner parts of the grid and the inside of the box with the pig lard. Make sure that that you cover everything as evenly as possible." Su Tang quickly issued instructions for Ms. Lan.

Zhang Cuilan hadn't had any real tasks to perform except feeding herself and her daughter ever since she had been bought by Su Tang, and she had even started to wonder why she had been bought in the first place. However, now that she saw this box, she understood that Su Tang definitely had a serious task to entrust to her.

"Understood!" Zhang Cuilan energetically went back and took out the pig lard that had been prepared beforehand and began to smear it on the box as instructed.

Su Tang added, "Baohe, make a fire and boil some water!"

Baohe was used to building fires to cook with at home so Su Tang's instructions were not a problem for her at all. She immediately made a sound of acknowledgment and sprung into action.

The sudden hustle and bustle from the courtyard made Su Nuo curious about what was going on, and he came out to take a look before asking, "Sister, are you going to make soap?"

Su Nuo had seen his sister making soap at home before, so when he saw what was happening he made a guess.

Su Tang nodded and hummed, "Mhm!" Then she stared at him and said, "Go back and study more, no slacking!"

Hearing his sister's scolding, Su Nuo stuck out his tongue before quickly running back into the room to keep working on his studies. Meanwhile, Su Tang continued to direct Zhang Cuilan and Baohe on what to do.

The two of them moved quickly and, after a short while, the box was oiled until the lard had properly soaked into the wood, and Su Tang nodded with satisfaction.
