New York

Pulling in front of the familiar mansion, Lauren presses the horn twice to alert the watchman.

A bulky man in his early 40's stood from a wooden chair and rushed to the iron gateways. In no time, he used a remote device to open the gates. Greeting him the afternoon, Lauren drives ahead and parks the car in the garage. Scanning her surroundings, she dashed towards the front doors of the mansion and rings the bell impatiently while looking for any being that might see her in such a vulnerable condition.

The doors were hurled open by an aged woman, who passes Lauren a warm smile, but a fragment of concern was perceived in her old eyes.

"Miss, why are you home so early? Is everything alright?" the woman asked in Turkish accent and Lauren let out a tired sigh.

"No, Nancy. Today was horrible." She mumbled, entering further inside the house and marches towards the stairs. Nancy is the head maid in her 60's of the mansion and has been serving the Williams for the past 17 years. The woman held a strong posture despite her small stature. Her grey hair was tied in an elegant bun. Wrinkles decorated her beautiful face and become prominent whenever she smiled. A white apron was tied around her waist following the dress code.

Nancy gasps in shock when she saw the crimson spots on the young mistress's pants. Wiping the sweaty drops off the forehead, she follow Lauren's trail and watched the distressed girl proceeding towards her room. Fear gripped Nancy's heart immediately and panic settled in. This wasn't supposed to happen.

Lauren wasn't supposed to come early. God knows how the young girl would feel when she sees the drama commencing behind her back. A desperate Nancy called out for Lauren once again. Her heart went out for the young girl. The old woman has been looking after the young mistress since she was four. Mr. Mason Williams, Lauren's father appointed her after his wife passed away fighting the brain tumor. It's been years now, and the bond between the two women has only strengthened.

"Madam, please eat something first. The bath can wait." Nancy voiced the first option that came to her mind knowing Lauren was planning to change her ruined clothes.

"Later, Nancy. A warm bath and a set of fresh clothes are all I need at the moment. Give me half an hour, and I will see you in the kitchen." She replied without turning back and started to untie her watch from the wrist. It belonged to her late mother. The model of the gold watch was simple and elegant. It was the best of her collections and most precious possession.

Nancy froze in the hallways and clutched her chest feeling lightheaded when Lauren stopped moving, noticing the door of her room open ajar. The bedroom at the end of the hallway, on the first-floor stays locked in Lauren's absence. No one was allowed to enter there except for Nancy. So, when she saw it open, recoils back in shock. A serious frown marred in between her brows before her steps fasten.
