When Chen Xiuxiu heard Madam Wu's apology, she just snorted disdainfully, "You're lucky that I have a good heart so I won't argue with you. If it was someone else, I would like to see if they would still be so nice to you."

Madam Wu lost her smile, but then she said, "Those two brats already almost killed me and even now Wulang is still so thin and sickly, but those people outside who don't know the whole story all want to point and tell me that I am wrong. I also wanted to raise them properly, but if I was nice to them, wouldn't that be the same as killing myself? If it was just me that would be fine, but what about my two children?"

When Chen Xiuxiu heard what Madam Wu said, she knew in her heart those were not the reasons Madam Wu wanted to kill the children of the original wife at all, but she still nodded along anyway. "I know, considering that mother-in-law of yours, if you were gone then Sani and Wulang would be even worse off than those two brats."

"That's all I was trying to say. Alas, it's a pity that my clumsy tongue can't explain things clearly, so I can only suffer in silence." Madam Wu pretended to be greatly aggrieved.

Chen Xiuxiu nodded and grabbed another handful of seeds which she munched on happily. The two chatted for a long time until Madam Zhao noticed that no one was cooking and began shouting. After that, Chen Xiuxiu patted her butt and left.

"That lazy man with his rotten belly, he married you and now he came back to lounge around like Buddha in this house. It seems he even wants to let me, your mother-in-law, wait on you like a servant. Erlu's wife quickly start the fire and start cooking." Madam Zhao was swearing in the main room.

Madam Sun was doing needlework in her room when she heard her mother-in-law's screams. She replied calmly, "Mother, it's sister-in-law's turn to cook today."

Although the family had not separated yet, they had already clearly separated the work. They all knew who was responsible for what work on what day, so Madam Sun would never rush to do someone else's work.

Sure enough, after Madam Sun finished speaking, Madam Zhao began screaming and cursing again. Madam Wu heard what happened inside the house and gritted her teeth. Why couldn't that dead old woman just die already?

Then her thoughts drifted back to the two brats who had left the house. So what if they had an adverse fate? Could it be that she couldn't even deal with two brats?

While that dead old woman in the main room really deserved to die, she couldn't die right away, otherwise how would Madam Wu regain her reputation?

Madam Wu squeezed a genial smile onto her face then rolled up her sleeves and went inside the house. "Oh, mother, I'm going to start cooking right away. It's just I was busy outside for a moment, discussing some new fabric that is on the market. I wanted to make new clothes for you, mother, so I was delayed for a while. But I'll start cooking now, it will be ready in a few minutes."

Madam Wu quickly walked to the kitchen with a wide smile plastered on her face. When Madam Zhao heard Madam Wu mention making new clothes for her, she stopped cursing. "I think you are just lazy! Hurry up and cook."

Madam Wu agreed with her mother-in-law's words with a smile and began to make a cooking fire. Madam Sun heard everything from her room and wore a sarcastic smile. That one was really worthy of her status as a big household's servant girl. She was undeniably very good at coaxing people but, what a pity, her heart was just too black.

Meanwhile, Su Tang naturally had no idea that she and her brother walking back from town had kicked up such a commotion. She was busy pretending to fish at the Qing River right now. Eventually, she took out three more carp from the space to bring back. When someone asked her about what she was carrying on the way, she smiled and explained that she went to the river to fish so she could make fish balls to bring into town and sell.
