When Su Tang heard her say that, she froze for a moment before saying, "Did something happen to the noodle stall?"

As far as Su Tang knew, Jiang He and Madam Qian's noodle stall could already be regarded as one of the more famous places to eat near the academy. Her fish balls had slowly gained a reputation, which was why the couple would usually order at least eighty of them from her every day.

However, that number was suddenly halved. Su Tang thought that something must have gone wrong with the stall and, because it was related to how much she could earn, she, of course, had to ask about it.

Madam Qian smiled when she heard Su Tang's question and playfully decided to let Su Tang sweat for a moment. She didn't know why, but she suddenly found the little girl kind of funny.

"Tang girl, I only ever see you acting so calm despite your age. Today's the first time I've been reminded that you are still a child. I take it that you don't have a field at home, right?" Madam Qian smiled as she asked Su Tang that question.

Su Tang nodded. "That's right. How could I afford to buy a field?"

Su Tang had actually inquired about this topic before and found out that the nearby fertile farmland cost around six taels of silver per mu, and even the barren wasteland would cost two taels per mu. Su Tang had only been in this world for a month and by now she had about two taels of silver in her hands, so she couldn't afford to buy land at all.

Speaking of this, it really made Su Tang depressed. After all, she could never afford to buy a house in her previous life and now she still couldn't afford to buy a field even after traveling to ancient times. Was there any reason she had to suffer like this? Wasn't life bullying her too much?

Madam Qian and Jiang He didn't own any land either but, recently, because their noodle stall had been doing much better they had managed to save some money. Now they were actually in the middle of asking around to see if they could afford to buy some farmland near Qinghe Town. For farmers, farmland was their greatest source of security and stability, which was why all the people around Qinghe Town wanted to own some.

Madam Qian said, "Miss Tang, you definitely have the ability so you will certainly be able to afford your own farmland in the future. Actually, there's nothing wrong with our noodle stall, it's just that many people will be busy with the harvest tomorrow. When all the students go home to help out on their farms, there will be fewer people left in town studying, so we will naturally not be able to sell as much as we do on other days."

Su Tang was not a farmer and she did not own any land so, of course, she had no idea about the autumn harvest or the busiest day for farming. But many of the students in Qinghe Town's academy were children that came from the farming villages nearby. Every year people would take advantage of this period of good weather to harvest the crops in their fields, which was why it was very typical for every member of those village families to gather and go work in their fields around this time.

Even the ones who would usually go to school and study would have to go home and help out on the farm during these days. Of course, the academy was aware that their students wouldn't be able to come and study during this period so they always gave all the students a holiday.

In this way, the children from farming families would be able to go home to help out on their fields and the young masters from well-off families with good conditions could just take it as a vacation that they could use to get some extra rest.

So during these days the students wouldn't be in the academy and, naturally, there wouldn't be as many customers for Jiang He and his wife's noodle stall, which was why they ordered less fish balls than usual.

When Su Tang heard Madam Qian's explanation she nodded along to show that she understood and said, "If nothing is wrong, then that's good. Anyway, I will deliver less tomorrow."

"Remember, if you can't make any crucian carp fish balls, just thirty will be fine." Madam Qian reminded her that any more than thirty of the normal fish balls would not be able to sell. However, there was a high demand for the crucian carp fish balls so they would be able to sell them even if there were a few too many.

"Understood!" Su Tang deftly collected today's money as well as tomorrow's deposit and then gave a nod.

After saying her farewells to Madam Qian, Su Tang turned around and went headed to the fabric store on East Street she had gone to before. The shopkeeper inside the fabric store saw that it was Su Tang and immediately greeted her with a smile. After all, Su Tang had bought a lot of coarse cloth from her shop before, so she remembered this little girl perfectly.

"Little girl, you're here again. What kind of fabric do you want to buy today? Actually, we recently received some fresh fabrics and some of them were unexpectedly plain white. It seems just right for you to wear!"
