After leaving Alicia's office, I stopped at the bank and pulled out a bunch of cash. I winced as my balance went down, but this had to be done. Next I went to the store and found a basic phone and new SIM card and loaded myself up with data and minutes. Back at home, I went to Google on the phone's browser and smiled when the username I wanted wasn't taken. Then, I logged into my all-but-dead Instagram account and found Lilly Donfort's profile. I sent her a DM, which she replied to immediately.
I wanted to ask how Hannah was, and how Jessy was. Hell, how they all were doing. But I was a woman on a mission and already hanging on by a string. So I tried to channel my inner Jake and focused on the task at hand.
I logged off quickly after that. His funeral, already? I thought it would take longer to set up; I wasn't ready! I closed my eyes at the rush of pain. Would it ever stop hurting to think of Richy?
Memories flashed through my mind, from when he first asked me to stay. Why? I wondered, for the first time since I'd found out that Richy kidnapped Hannah. Why would he want me involved, if he was behind everything? Yet another question I might never get an answer to...
I refused to cry anymore right now. I had too much to do. And as much as I didn't want to return to Duskwood, I needed to go to Richy's funeral. I couldn't be a coward and miss it. I needed closure and wanted to support my friends. It also made sense that I leave right away in case they needed help preparing. My promise last night to myself of hanging on for only one day was now extended until tomorrow. One more day, I told myself. Just keep going.
