We were sitting in our boats, that let me tell you, me and Wednesday spent almost all night fixing. Because she continued to tell me that I was doing it all wrong. But you know what, we'll see how today goes, and then see if I was wrong.
"What do we have here? The runt of the litter." Bianca said looking towards Wednesday, and I just rolled my eyes trying to focuse on what was important, winning the Poe Cup.
"For the record, I don't believe I'm better than everyone else. Just that I'm better than you." Wednesday replied, and I wanted to smile but then I remembered...
Oh shit!
I looked over to Xavier in a panic. He motioned to my breathing and I nodded my head slowing it down slightly. But I couldn't do it. My heart started to beat fast and I wanted to faint.
'She knows!' I mouthed to Xavier but before he could reply we were cut off by Principal Weems.
"I want to welcome you all to the Edgar Allan Poe Cup. This is one of Nevermore's proudest annual traditions, dating back 125 years. Each team must row across to Raven Island, pull a flag from Crackstone's Crypt, and hustle back without sinking or being sunk. First team to cross the finish line with their flag wins the cup and bragging rights for a year, as well as some special privileges." Principal Weems explained when a gun shot went off, "Let the Poe Cup begin!"
And with that every team started to paddle their way to our flags. We did the best we could do, when the clowns passed us. I rolled my eyes and kept going when I noticed one of the sirens ready to jump in the water.
I knew it.
A second team came up to us. Slowing down when they got to the same speed as us. Then one of their axes came swinging at our heads.
Holy shit, did they want to kill us!
Luckily we all ducked in time. I don't know what would have happened if we didn't. We continued to row as if nothing had ever happened when the other boat started getting attacked by something in the water.
First team was down.
When I saw the tail come in and out of the water I knew it was time. That siren was coming for either us or Ajax's team next. And I wasn't going to let that happen.
To our team at least.
"Nixi." Wednesday said picking up her oar again and I nodded bending down and pushing the first lever down.
The fact that we didn't sink and got to Crackstone's Creek is a good sign. My net worked and I couldn't wait to rub it in Wednesday's face.
"Stay her and make sure Bianca can't sabatage our boat." Wednesday said to Enid as me and her ran off into the woods.
"See I told you the net would work." I shouted as we continued to run and I jumped around in circles.
"No time to celebrate." Wednesday said and I huffed before gaining speed to catch up with her, "But good job, I really didn't think it would work."
"Let's go, man." I heard Ajax say right after my small celebration, "There right there."
"Later, Nixi!" Xavier and Ajax shouted running past me and Wednesday as I rolled my eyes.
"Hurry!" I exclaimed grabbing her hand and yanking her with me, "The black one."
Wednesday ran up and got it but the same thing that happened a few days ago happened again. Wednesday's head shot back and she fell to the ground.
I quickly ran over shacking her, "Wednesday! Come on, what's going on! WEDNESDAY!"
I looked around before taking the flag in one hand and lifting Wednesday to her feet. She was still out but I continued to drag her through the woods.
"Woah, what happened?" Enid asked and I just shrugged my shoulders as I got Wednesday in the boat and she finally snapped out of it.
By now both Ajax's team and Bianca's team were ahead of us. Because I have to admit, dragging Wednesday through the woods was a lot harder then I thought it would be. But she's taller then I am.
I pushed the boat out into the water before hopping in it last minute. We then started to row past the jokers and they looked to be in a panic. I noticed one side of their boat was sinking so I brought my claws out.
"Here let me help you." I smiled scratching the other side of their boat causing it to sink completely, "Love you, Ajax!"
"See ya, jokers!" Enid laughed as we rowed away.
"Cheaters!" The jokers shouted causing me to laugh.
Team two down.
"I just asked myself, 'WWWND?'" Enid explained causing me to raise an eyebrow confused, "What would Wednesday and Nixi do?"
"Great, now row faster." I replied and we all gained rowing speed, gaining up on Bianca's team.
We got close so Wednesday tapped my shoulder. I didn't even have to ask what to do, I leaned down pushed the second lever up and the spears we attached came out.
We got super closer when all of a sudden we started getting pushed the other way. I whimpered in surprise and Wednesday looked at me with a half smile. What was that for?
"You know what, screw this." I mumbled to myself taking my oar and jabbing at what ever was pushing us.
And it certainly worked but Thing jumped in the water to make sure the job was truly done.
"Go, go, GO!" I shouted and Enid nodded as we started to row back to Baianca's boat.
This time we got close enough and we ruined the side of their boat. I smiled to myself and we continued to row back to the dock while Bianca's boat sank.
Team three down.
Enid got out with the flag while Wednesday helped me out and the three of us ran towards the finish line. Ophilia hall had finally one the Poe Cup.
"OMG, Wednesday, Nixi, we did it! This is the greatest moment of my entire life." Enid said gripping onto both me and Wednesday as she jumped around, "Admit it, you kinda got into the whole school spirit thing."
"You didn't tell me it was a dark, vengeful spirit." Wednesday replied as me and her watched Bianca and the others pull themselves out of the water.
