My eyes opened to see Yami smirking at me from my bedside. I was in a small hospital room, definitely not the one I had woken up in every time previously.
"Yami," I called out softly. "You didn't die."
"Sorry to disappoint, sweetheart."
"Mm, I'm not disappointed because now I get to kill you myself for coming back here a bloody fucking mess."
He laughed loudly, "Glad to see you haven't changed."
My smile quickly faded as I remembered everything that had happened, and immediately moved my hands to my stomach.
"I-is our baby ok?" I asked as I looked down, small tears forming.
Yami grabbed my hands gently, "It's a miracle, but yes. The doctors said you're both perfectly fine."
I grabbed him close and wrapped my arms around his neck, hugging him tightly. I began to cry into him as he held me in return.
"I was so scared. I know I shouldn't have risked it, but I couldn't let you die Yami. I-I need you."
"Hey, it's all ok now," he whispered as he stroked my hair. "We're all safe. You were actually closer to death than I was."
I pulled back and looked at him with wide eyes, "I-I was?"
"Once you healed me, they thought there was no way you would recover. But now that you have, I'm keeping you on bed rest, so don't even think about doing anything sneaky."
I smiled, "I promise not to run off or do anything stupid."
I leaned back and rested my hands on my stomach again, "Not until we have this little one that is."
He leaned over and rested his head on my belly, rubbing it gently as I played with his hair. His face looked so peaceful and calm, so happy.
I wanted to know what happened at the battle, but I didn't want to ruin this moment. Not yet.
"Yami," I whispered. "Do you want to know if it's a boy or girl?"
His eyes shot open, "You know!?"
I smiled and nodded. He picked up his head and got closer to me. His eyes were already filling with soft tears as he stared at me with love.
He placed his hands gently on my stomach, "P-please."
"She's a girl."
His lip quivered as he stared down at me, and in just a moment, he broke down, immediately pulling me back into him.
He held me tightly as he sobbed, and I cried with him letting out a softly laugh, "Please tell me those are happy tears."
"I'm the happiest I've ever been."
