Eleanor found herself once again in the bustling kitchen engaged in an animated conversation with her beloved friends, Mary, Anne and, Josie, amidst the aromas of simmering pots filled with tonight's dinner. All three maids stood around Eleanor, eyes shimmering with excitement. It had only been a night since the Duke's confession to Eleanor, but she could not help but confide to her friends and receive their well wishes.

"Oh Eleanor, we can hardly contain our joy," Mary exclaimed, a wide grin forming on her face. She took Eleanor's hands in hers, "To think that you and the Duke are embarking on a courtship."

Anne's eyes too were gleaming with curiosity. "Tell us, Miss Campbell, what is to become of the Dowager Duchess? She has been quite vocal about her desire for the Duke to marry Lady Caroline, her letters are still coming for the Duke."

Eleanor's gaze softened, her heart grateful for the support and camaraderie of her friends. She leaned closer, lowering her voice to match their conspiratorial tones.

"She has been quite persistent, but fear not, for the Duke and I are to confide in one another. We shall face any challenges that come our way with courage and unwavering devotion."

Josie who's head rested against Eleanor's shoulder, stood up suddenly. Her eyes sparkled with mischief, "We know you'll conquer any obstacles in your path, but it wouldn't hurt to have a strategy, would it?"

A knowing smile placed itself on Eleanor's lips, "indeed, dear josie. I have already had a conversation with the Duke about the Dowager Duchess. We understand that she may be resistant to our union, but we are prepared to handle her with grace and patience."

Anne leaned closer, "do you think she will come to accept your relationship in time?"

Eleanor straightened herself, her voice filled with quiet determination. "I believe that love has the power to change hearts, even the most stubborn of ones. If we show the Dowager Duchess the depth of our commitment, perhaps she will come to understand."

The maids nodded in agreement, their expressions full of hope. They knew, as Eleanor did, that their path would not be without challenges. But the bond they shared, the unyielding support of those who stood by their side, gave them the strength to face whatever lay ahead.

As Eleanor made her way to the library, her mind was occupied with the books she needed for the upcoming lessons with the children. Lost in thought, she was taken by surprise as the Duke gently looped his arm through hers. Intrigued and curious, she followed him, the soft rustle of her skirts echoing in the corridors.

The Duke's study was a room filled with an immense essence of knowledge and mystery. The walls were lined with shelves, displaying countless volumes. His desk stood at the centre of the room, adorned with inkwells and quills, evidence of the Duke's scholarly pursuits.

As they entered, the Duke closed the door behind them, enveloping them in a cocoon of privacy. Eleanor's heart fluttered, her cheeks blushing at the memories of what nearly happened in this room before the ball. The Duke's eyes bore into hers, his gaze filled with a warmth that sent shivers down her spine.

He took a step closer, his hand reaching to cup her cheek gently. Eleanor's breath hitched as she felt the soft caress of his thumb against her skin, leaving a trail of sensation in its wake. Time seemed fade away as they stood there, suspended in this silent dance of unspoken desires.

"I hope you don't mind, Miss Campbell," he said softly, his breath caressing her ear, "but I couldn't resist the opportunity to have a moment alone with you."
