day 20
10.42 pm
lee harumy person
the concert ends in a heartbeat
and before i know it
we're both walking out of the stadium
with our throats and body soarjust like before, the crowd is packed
jeongguk and i nearly get swept apart
but he's holding onto my waist
tightly from behind
cautiously steering his way around
to find an exit"careful" he says
when someone shoves past me
he balances my footing again and i nodsuddenly there's a ringing from
inside my pocket
my phone is ringingwait
why is it ringing?"j-jeongguk my phone"
i say as i try to reach into
my pocket to take it
but the crowd is pushing even harder now
i manage to take it out
right before the ringing endsmy eyes nearly fall out of its sockets
i recognise this numberjeongguk notices me tensing up
and looks over my shoulder to see who it is
"what's wrong?""i-it's" i swallow the lump in my throat
and turn the phone off with shaking fingers
"my dad
it's my dad
how did he get my number?"there was no way he would be able
to track me
this was a new phone jeongguk had
given me back at the old bookstore
unless—my head whips around at instinct
they couldn't have sent someone to
follow me, right?
they wouldn't know i'm herei feel the loss of jeongguk's hands on my waist
and turn around to see if he's still there
he's gonei try pushing my way through the crowd
(thankful that i was born as a small sized kid)
my eyes scan around the
people in the crowd frantically
my heart picking up it's pacewhat if i lost him?
oh god what do i dowhen i finally see his face again
he has his arms taken by men dressed in
neat dark blue uniforms
and guns on their beltsthe first thought that flashes into my mind is
what if this is the furthest we'll ever get to go?
what if we'll never make it to busan together?
what if our hopes and dreams are over?no, no, no
please, not now
god i'm begging you, not nowit feels like jeongguk read my mind
because he's staring back at meeven from across the crowd
he's mouthing the words "run"
with wavering pupils
"run, pinky, run"the crowd doesn't give me a chance to respond
and when i finally regain
control of my footing again
he's gone
and out from my clear sight
leaving me standing alone
in the middle of a black ocean
