Author's POV

As he reached the hallway of the hospital lobby, Shaiq found Ahmad already standing there, waiting for him. What caused his brow to twitch was his police uniform.

So he came here with proper strategy and with no plan of backing off.

It was Ahmad who called him when he was with Zainab a while ago and he got to know right away what was his motive. He was aware of this thing as well and this time, he had to surrender in front of his friend.

Ahmad was a policeman by profession and probably three or four years older than him too. He met him in the States in his first year of residing there as his roommate in a private boys hostel. Ahmad was there for his foreign training and had already completed more than half of his two years. Ahmad was a nice, calm, and easy-going guy despite the severity of his vocation.

Soon they became friends but since Ahmad had to leave for Pakistan again as his drill ended, they had to part ways too but they remained in phone contact with each other. Now as Shaiq was back in Pakistan, they again started meeting.

"Come, Shaiq," Ahmad enunciated with a warm smile. "How is Zainab?"

"She is fine, currently sleeping," Shaiq replied, putting extra pressure on the word sleeping which brought an amusing smirk on Ahmad's face which he wiped away quickly.

"That's good. Take care of her. I will also meet her personally someday," he announced " By the way, I know you have an idea regarding why I am here and--"

"Ahmad, she is not in the right state for this. I don't want her to drain herself," Shaiq cut him off hastily. He placed his both hands in his jeans pocket and gazed behind Ahmad to find two inspectors standing there. "I told you I don't know that person. I never saw him. His eyes, his physique everything was stranger to me and so to Zainab as well. Let's not make her scared of even going out."

"Shaiq, he only attacked Zainab, and to suspect Shakir Qureshi of all of this and questioning him, I need Zainab's testimony. I can't do this without her statement," Ahmad asserted in a loud voice.

Shaiq sighed as he closed his eyes and then opened them. "She will get scared. She wouldn't be able to bear it. Let it remain a robbery case, Ahmad."

"Nothing will happen Shaiq," Ahmad placed his hand on his taut shoulder. "You are with her. I am too. We will take care of her. We now wouldn't let a single thorn touch our Zainab and for this, we need to wipe away a thorn named Shakir from her life forever. Okay?"

Shaiq sighed but now conceded nonetheless. He knew even if it would hurt Zainab now after all this would be in her favor in the long run. And Zainab's happiness was what was significant to him the most.

"You?"

They both turned around to find a shocked exclamation behind them Someone was looking at both of them one after other with wide eyes. Shaiq ran his hand through his hair in irritation.

Now he had to answer another person too.

Zainab's POV

I slowly opened my eyes to welcome the dull surrounding of the hospital room and the faint nauseous smell of medicines. My head was still heavy and a dull pain was still arising from the wound on my abdomen. I groaned and sat up. I looked here and there to find the room empty. I remembered Shaiq was with me before I went to sleep. Where did he go? This just gave me the horrible feeling of the time in those last five months when the same thing used to happen. Shaiq left me alone in the morning while being a stranger the night.
