ONE MONTH LATER

Zainab's POV

My ignorance of the simmering lathery coffee boiling to its full extent and already trickling out of the pan, leaving bronze marks In it were sufficient for anyone to interpret my mental state right now. The pungent aroma of the dripping coffee wasn't even getting me out of the trance I was at that time. Though my eyes were on the pan, my mind was somewhere else.

Shaiq, why did you have to go without meeting me, without saying a word to me? Did you really think of me as a burden that you just get yourself out of it as soon as you got the chance?

Though I was happy for him. I am glad he had finally thought about himself and his future. He deserved a good life with a good partner, not with an unfortunate girl like me. But thinking about how he had dumped me in darkness and never contacted me in this one month always broke my heart. Still, by him leaving me and pursuing his career, I could finally be at ease that I didn't become a hindrance to his better future.

"Just admit you don't want me to leave you."

I flinch when someone whispers in my ear.

"Like the way you are oblivious of this boiling coffee dribbling on the floor, just say you love me as much say I do because these actions are a reflection of your heart, Zainab."

My eyes got widened when I feel the familiarity of that whisper. With this, I finally looked at the pan on the front. Seeing its contents running out, I hurriedly dragged my hand towards the stove. Before I could even reach, within a split second, a hand pulled forward and turned off the stove.

A realization hit me and I hastily turned behind on my toes. My jaw dropped seeing Shaiq in front of me. He just smiled when he found my gaze on him. Was I dreaming or was he really back?

"Shaiq, you?" I whispered under my breath.

He folded his arms on his chest as the mesmerizing smile on his lips got deeper. This made me smile as well. I felt a rush of happiness through me when I finally discovered that he was here for sure. He had come back to me. My Shaiq never forgot me. I glanced at his face which was glowing due to him cheekily grinning. At that time, I felt the intense urge to hug him and felt his presence.

But soon that feeling faded away and the smile on my face worn out as I remember that he had again sacrificed his happiness for my sake. What if he really wanted to go abroad and complete his study but he had just come back for me. If that was the case, then I will rather bear his absence than to get him near him. I wanted him to lead a happy life with a girl who could love him to the fullest and I was surely not the one who would be able to give him the love he deserved.

"Yes, Zainab. It's me, your Shaiq," he asserted with a smile and cupped my face with his both hands.

I felt tingling sensations that ran throughout my body on his touch. It was not like he was touching me for the first time, but the odd feeling which my heart experienced at this time was unbelievable.

One part of my heart was happy with him being the same Shaiq as before but the other one was constantly accusing me of the reason for his return. I took a deep sigh before listening to that other nook of my heart and pushed his hands away from my face.

Shaiq raised a brow in confusion when I removed his hands but didn't say anything. I had to do it for his sake. For my best friend's decent future.

"What are you doing here?" I asked in a stern voice.

Instead of replying, Shaiq bent down to my level and placed his both hands on my shoulders. He leaned towards my face.
