"You really don't know why you're here Ms. Davis"

"No not really"

"Well the nurse has brought to my attention the bruising on your neck"

I sunk down in my seat. Fuck I'm so busted, well time to spit out another lie

"It was some creep at carnival"

"Do you know who?"

"No"

"So a random person came up and choked you? That sounds very unlikely ms Davis"

"People are weird"

"Listen the only reason I ask is because there are some people claiming they saw Nate Jacobs dragging you by your hand at the carnival"

"That has nothing to do with this"

"We have had problems, as I'm sure you know with Mr. Jacobs and violence in the past, I just want to make sure you're okay"

"I'm fine sir"

He gave me a concerned look

"Alright then, let me know if anything happens, we're here to help you Olivia"

I stood up and walked out of the office. I received stares and glares from everyone. I mean let's be real I'm sure everyone can figure out what happened. Nate sort of has a reputation when it comes to violence and anger issues. And they know we're seeing each other, at least I think we are. I'm not too sure on that part. I've been too busy being choked to ask if we're even in a real relationship.

"What was that about?" Nate asked as we walked to locker rooms for practice

"What do you think Nate?"

"What did you say"

"I told them the truth Nate and the truth is that a random creep pushed me up against the trailers" I said turning to face him

"That's your story?"

"You wanna come up with a better one? Or should I just go tell them that you did it?"

"Don't start that shit Liv"

"What the truth, don't start telling the truth!?" I said raising my voice

"Will you quiet down?" He moved closer to me

"Listen Liv, I just want to move on, I'm sorry,
I don't know how to make it up to you"

"It's not that easy Nate"

"Come over tonight, we can just hang out"

"I don't know Nate-"

"Please"

"Fine"

Practice went fine. I was so happy to be able to run again, but mostly I was excited for our first meet. I needed the distraction from all the bullshit.

After finishing up in the locker room I met Nate in the parking lot. Every time he would look at my neck he would close his eyes slightly and then look back up to my eyes, like it was painful to look at.

I walked in the front door of the Jacobs home, it was dark and seemed dreary. I felt the same way when we came here for dinner

"No ones home" he said throwing his keys into a little bowl on the side table next to the door

I followed him into the kitchen and watched as he opens up the fridge pulling out two water bottles

"Thanks" I said accepting it from him

"Here let's go to my room" he said getting up from his seat on the counter

I followed him up the stairs and into the familiar bedroom, he didn't close the door behind him, he left it open probably to make me more comfortable. I'm sure he could tell how uncomfortable I was

"I wanna talk, without you getting mad at me" I said sitting on his bed

He nodded his head and sat right next to me

"How does Maddy have the tapes?"

He sighed

"I want the truth, no more bullshit"

"She showed up at my house one night, and wanted to get back together, I got pissed and stormed off to the shower, I guess that when she took it"

"Why was it in your room"

"I had it in a book, I don't know how she found it"

I nodded my head slightly before falling on my back to stare at the ceiling. Nate did the same but turned his body to look at me.

He ran his finger gently against my neck outlining the bruises causing me to flinch at first

"I'm sorry" I moved my body to face his

"It's okay" I said before gently pressing my lips to his
