Charlie's POV
I looked down at my phone, completely baffled as to why Ryan Woodsen was sending me a friend request.
I stared down at the notification for a good ten minutes before I hesitantly accepted his request.
I bit down on my nails.
Hey. He texted.
My heart raced. Why am I being like this? It's just a text... from Joey Turner's best friend...
Hi? I responded, scrunching my nose.
Three dots appeared, indicating that he was typing.
How r u?
Small talk? Is this the reason why he added me?
My mom just yelled at me for getting detention, other than that I'm fine. I texted back.
How did you get detention? I always thought you were a good boy.
I bit down on my fingernail again, my stomach suddenly twisting with anxiety.
I swore at some guy in French class. I explained through text.
Haha.
I slightly chuckled. I don't really know what to respond to that. Do I just send a thumbs up? Or just say something cool?
Three dots appeared again.
Are you going to be at your friend's birthday party this weekend?
I almost forgot that Ella's birthday party was this Saturday. But why would Ryan be going?
Yeah. How did you know about it? I queried.
She invited me. He replied swiftly.
Why would she invite him? Is it because he's Tom's cousin?
Oh. Was all I managed to type.
I don't have to go if it'll make you uncomfortable.
I furrowed my brows before typing.
Why would I be uncomfortable?
Idk. Three dots immediately appeared again.
Bc you don't like me?
I laughed quietly down at my phone.
You and your friends bullied me last year, so... I typed, sliding myself down onto my floor.
I'm not like that anymore. He was quick to respond.
Maybe we can be friends?
My eyes widened and I felt my heart skip a beat. Ryan Woodsen wanted to be my friend? This has got to be some kind of prank.
Are you seriously trying to prank me right now! I typed angrily.
No one like Ryan would ever want to be friends with someone like me.
What? No. Why would I be pranking you?
I sighed. To embarrass me, or maybe Joey put you up to this.
Three dots appeared, staying there for awhile before an entire paragraph came through.
I'm not trying to prank you. I seriously want to be friends. It was unfair how we treated you last year. The guys on the team are jerks, but I promise I'm not like that. And nobody knows I'm texting you, least of all Joey.
I read the text, trying to discern if he was being honest or not.
Why would you want to be friends with me? I texted before my mom entered my room without knocking.
