SHE tried to stare at the laptop screen. The mails that she had to send were stacked on the top of her mind like an unfinished chore but she couldn't move her fingers anymore.

The pain subsided and she knew that she had to be in her office. She had already neglected everything for a good week because of her case and she couldn't do it anymore. Nobody said her anything, but there was a voice in her head that screamed that she was being nothing but careless.

"Sitara, lunch?" One of her colleagues tapped on the glass door of her cabin, pushing it a little that just enough for her to peek inside.

"I'll order something. You guys enjoy." She pressed her lips into a thin line, giving her a light but polite smile along with her refusal. She couldn't go out for lunch, her life was falling apart and she wanted to confine herself to the four walls of this room until she could gain some stability.

She opened another tab after Naina had left, typing out the exact words that were etched in her medical reports. She read about that condition and its potential cure, along with case studies that dealt with women choosing to have children despite that.

It didn't help her. The numbers were gut wrenching and ended up sinking her morale further. It pained her to come to terms with her doctor being right.

She took out her phone from the purse and began to look out for lunch options. She needed to finally sit down and eat something before all this could consume herself entirely.

An unopened message from Zoya caught her attention. It was a picture of Abeer sleeping with all his toys. The bed spared very little space for him and there was everything else there while he crumpled himself into a corner, it looked uncomfortable but the wide grin spread on his little face even in sleep made her laugh.

She couldn't contain her chuckles and realised that in all this time, she had finally expressed a little happiness.

Her eyes slightly watered. She couldn't forget the time when she had Abeer. There was everything in her that was falling apart, yet seeing his face and getting to hold him had managed to give her a hope that nobody else could.

Her gaze again fell on her report, making her chest heave in pain.

She gulped, pressing a hot water bag to her lower abdomen as the pain had increased ever since she came home. She wanted to lie down and relax, but it was so bad that she could do nothing else except finding ways for the erasure of her suffering. She had never experienced menstrual cramps that were this grave.

"Look." Abeer wasn't being a help either. He wanted her to be involved with him at a time when she could barely be there for herself. Sitara let out a frustrated sigh, feeling her face getting pressed by his hands as he pushed himself on her in order to gain her attention for a drawing that he had made.
