serendipity

We were pieces of the same star,
we were the dried, orange, autumn leaves of the same tree,
we were soulmates.
You were fire and I was earth.
You could have burnt me down.
But you came close enough just to ignite a spark
within my worn out, numb soul.

I never even wanted to fall in love in the first place.
Until I heard your laughter.
Man! I would do anything to listen to that every day of my life.
And then, I saw you.
I saw those innocent eyes in search of a kind soul to confide in,
I saw the way your lips curled into a soft, welcoming smile
on seeing my unknown yet familiar soul.
And I went from, 'I don't want to fall in love,'
to, 'hey, I think I've known you.'
Perhaps that's what is Serendipity.

You were someone I would have long conversations over dinner,
someone I would lay on the grass at night and stargaze with,
someone whom I would read out crime fiction novels to,
someone I would paint huge canvases with.

Your eyes, your curly hair, your smile, and how you made me feel safe.
You were someone who felt like a warm, safe, tight hug,
where the universe itself stands still to let us have our moment,
where all the noise of the scary world outside would be blocked out,
where I could let out that breath of relief after a long day.
And from the moment you let me in,
I knew I was safe with you.
My Enhypen.
