When I left Phoebe to help train Sam, I didn't intend on her running into a fight without me there, right beside her. Even though I know she's safe with Sam, I don't like that I can't have my eyes on her at all times. Sharon and I are walking around the GRC building in New York trying to find any Flag Smasher we can. As I separate from Sharon a woman walks up to me, handing me her phone, "Mr. Barnes. It's Karli."

I take the phone from her, noting the Flag Smasher logo on the screen before raising it to my ear, "Karli?"

I hear Karli, who sounds determined, "aren't you tired of fighting for the wrong side, Mr. Barnes?"

I scoff, "I've done this before, kid. I know how it ends."

"It doesn't matter if I don't survive this. I'm fighting for something bigger than myself. And with all the bodies you've collected have you ever been able to say the same?"

"You don't think I ever fought for something bigger than myself? That's all I ever tried to do. And I failed twice. But you can beat I'm not gonna fail again. Not when Phoebe's involved."

"Right, you're little girlfriend. I like her. It'll break my heart if I have to kill her."

"You think your case justifies all this death, but in the end, the nightmares won't go away. You're gonna remember all the ones you killed. Trust me. Don't do this. Don't go down this path."

"If that's how you feel, you should sit this one out."

"Come on, you know I ain't gonna do that."

"Well, thank you. I'm glad you took my call. You've been a big help."

Karli hangs up the phone and when she does I realize that if Phoebe was with me Karli would have asked for her instead of talking to me. Which means they know she isn't with me, "damn it!"
