Dreams Without You

i missed you in my dream last night—
every night you used to visit,
yet you were but a ghost in the memory of my subconscious.

the subtle whispers accompanied by small kisses,
skin gently caressed,
and summer breeze teasing at our window.

it was all a dream of course,
in reality,
your touch is so far from mine,
and our reality,
even farther.

our presence has never been that close,
never laid eyes on each other as if we were in love,
never even gave it a thought before.

the dreams have turned things i had never thought of into fantasies and cycles of what ifs,
if we truly were right next to each other,
no one else in the world,
would we stare into each other's eyes as if we were the most important thing in our lives?
