"Oh my god, did you see what Lara was wearing?" Talia snickers. My best friend. She only came last year but we clicked like crazy.

"Yeah," I snort.

"She looked low-key homeless."

I roll my eyes. "Don't say that. It was just a bad fashion day for her."

"If you say so Kaity," Talia shrugs.

"And it's been a bad fashion month for you, Talia? Kaity?" Xavier purrs from behind us.

Immediately, my whole body fills up with annoyance. Talia blinks, then blushes and looks away.

"Who asked for your opinion?" I bat my eyes sweetly at his smug face as I turn in my seat.

Xavier shrugs. "You talking to me now? What happened, did your boyfriend finally give you permission to look at me?"

Irritation is an understatement.

"You have nothing better to do with your shitty life than look at mine?" I raise a brow.

I mean... I didn't disagree to what he said, which he can sense with his victorious expression.

Which makes this all the more frustrating, because Dexter did say it was okay to retort a little. At least in maths, which Dex doesn't take. But Un-fucking-fortunately, Xavier does.

And with my luck, he sits right behind me.

He does give me another shrug. God, these are annoying. "I think I'm waiting for a moment where your monotonous life gets a little more exciting, Sharpie. Props to you for living like a prisoner for so long."

That fucking nickname...

I bare my teeth in a sneer.

"Kaity!" Talia's eyes widen like I've committed a war crime. I close my eyes, gritting my teeth, I blink at Xavier before turning back around. Because Talia will tell Dexter. Then Dexter will be upset with me for losing my shit.

Or taking to Xavier.

Xavier's laugh slithers into my ear like a fucking snail. Slimy and gross. I'd rather listen to nails being scratched on a board.

Yeah. It's that fucking bad.

"Good to see nothing's changed," he sings from behind me.

I grab my pen and hold it like a knife.

"Your knuckles are white, princess," Xavier whispers into my ear.

Maybe I can stab him with a pen.

"You think too loud, Sharpie. You're basically interrupting Mr Johnson," he continues.

I turn my face discreetly, and beckon him forward with my finger. He leans forward and gives me his ear. "You want me to commit a felony, Altson? Because I'm a second away from killing you."

"I'm finally ready to be killed by thou. But I think your pretty boyfriend will not approve of your charges," he purrs, making me grit my teeth.

I lean away from him, and try to focus on the maths equations being solved on the board instead of replaying this idiot's whispers.

I suppress a shudder.

Goddamn Tuesday. I thought I hated Wednesdays but this day just won't get over.

First the lunch altercation, then maths, then chemistry.

I can't get away from Xavier.

My mom calls me.
