"How many times this month?" Levi questioned as both he and Carmen rode to the special operation squads new base.

"Five." Carmen replied casually. "They've sent five dolls to retrieve me." She clarified, knowing the numbers didn't truly matter. She could disarm and capture countless of her kind and her efforts would be for nought, each time a doll found herself in a prison cell, she'd mysteriously start choking on her own spit. Suicide.

"Well, glad to see you're holding your own, at least." He remarked. It was impossible for the scouts to provide protection to someone like Carmen, who was being hunted by spies even in their own ranks.

"Did you think I wouldn't be able to?" The woman scoffed, in her own mind, she was better than the new dolls in every way, none of them could beat the original.

"Course not." He answered her, truthfully.

"Though, I think we should prepare for something big." She warned. "We're entering the calm before the storm, dolls enjoy watching their enemy relax while they prepare the kill. I assume their plan is for me to let my guard down and get into a routine before they strike."

It was good that her injury had lost its infection and finally started to heal, otherwise, combatting the enemy would become a hassle. She needed all her strength to face the future and defend her new squad, she wasn't going to lose any more friends.

"You don't have to face them on your own." Levi advised, slightly shocking the assassin. "The squad has your back, you've saved Eren enough for them to realise you as an ally and a squad mate."

The woman gritted her teeth. As much as she knew the squad trusted her, she couldn't put her life in their hands. It was dangerous - too dangerous - for children to get involved in her business. Dolls didn't care what age a target was, or even if they weren't part of their mission, as far as they were aware, anyone that got in their way was a threat that needed to be dealt with. Carmen knew as much.

"Your concern is appreciated, but I won't drag my squad into this." She shook her head. "You should know, I don't intend to ruin any more innocent lives."

The more she thought about it, the more she felt as though Petra and Oruo died because of her influence. Maybe, if she had never spoken to them that day, if she focused on her own mission instead, then both of them might have lived a life of content in the interior. They would surely be MP's, though innocent and untainted unlike the others.

Levi, as if sensing her discomfort, briefly changed the subject. Besides, he already knew if anything were to happen , to Carmen - his last surviving squad mate - then he wouldn't hesitate to stand by her side on a battlefield. "Those brats better have the cabin cleaned." He tutted, to which Carmen kept a straight face.

"We both know they won't." She replied casually.

As he spent more time with her, he began realise how she differed from her old friends. Normally, Petra would have replied with a light chuckle and made a joke, or Oruo would have been degrading to the new members. Even Gunther and Eld would have made a few jabs at them. But Carmen wasn't like them, not really. When in a crowd, she blended in perfectly - the definition of a wolf in sheep clothing.
