Carmen couldn't breath.

Her body was frozen in place while she felt hands clasp around her neck - they were suffocating her, stealing her life and sending fear rushing through her veins. The hands had held her neck for what felt like hours, until finally everything stopped.

"Carmen!" Mikasa shook her body in worry, causing the blonde to shoot out of bed screaming. In her panicked state, she grabbed Mikasa's hand and twisted it behind her back. "What's going on?" The teen yelled, pained by the pressure Carmen was placing on her.

After taking a few deep breaths, eyes adjusting to the room around her, Carmen released Mikasa. "Wha- but I was just." Her words trailed off as she met Sasha's gaze. She was scared of her, and rightfully so. "Are you okay?" She quickly asked the dark haired girl who she'd wrongfully attacked.

Running her hand along her sore wrist, Mikasa slowly nodded. "I'm fine. But, what about you?" She answered.

"Huh? What about me?" Carmen questioned, not understanding at all. As far as she was aware, it was her who had attacked Mikasa.

"Yeah, you were tossing and turning, then you started screaming for help." Sasha informed, and that's when the memories came flooding back to Carmen ; the hands around her neck, her fear and futile attempts to escape - was it real?

"I think it was just a nightmare." The woman downplayed, not wanting them to worry. "I'm sorry, it won't happen again." She stated as the girls all went back to bed, trying to forget the events that had left them all shaken.

However, it did happen again. Then again. Then again. Each night, the three girls would peacefully end their day and be prepared to rest, yet no matter what, all of them were awoken by Carmen.

The dreams were all different, sometimes she was strangled, others she was stabbed over and over. Regardless of her capabilities, her dreams rendered her powerless against the inevitable attacks. Though what scared her most was that she recognised each and every one of her dreams, despite seeing them through the other lens. This was her karma - no matter how much she tried, it wouldn't go away.

"You should see a doctor." Mikasa advised as she put out the lamp in their room. The training that day had been exhausting, Levi led it and made sure to test their limits, which only meant that neither of the dorm mates wanted to be disturbed.

"It's not going to happen tonight, I've dealt with it." Carmen protested, her main reason being that she didn't want to confess her crimes.

"You said that last night." Sasha chimed in.

"This time's different."

"You said that too."

Setting her head on the pillow, the woman ignored her roommates, instead she tried to face her problem head on. She imagined somewhere calming, her old cadet training ground seemed to bring back pleasant memories. Snowy mountains, log fires, tea.
