WELCOME BACK, SAM REED!

Two pairs of horrified eyes scanned the dark room.

Sam's green eyes could barely make out Evan's figure hunched over the phone. His heavy breathing was the loudest above the old building settling groans.

With the other hand grasping her purse- the ginger woman blindly felt around with her free hand.

She needed to back herself against a wall. Standing out in the open made her feel miserably anxious- like every angle had the possibility of death.

Finally- her back met the warm wall of the old building.

The wood was lumpy with its age. The softness of it making her think termites had rotted the wood- her face slightly scrunch up at the idea. Her widened eyes naturally shifted to the brighter window a few feet away.

Rain was beginning to patter outside as a storm brewed.

With the older man in view, stationary at the office desk, she gazed at the mirror of the window.

The reflection of her plump stature barely mirrored- but she noticed another window was behind her. One she couldn't feel. Her hand traced the wall behind her- noticing it's soft texture.

Tears welled in her eyes, heart skipping a beat, and breath growing as ragged as the eldered building.

This wasn't a wall.

The heavy breathing was coming from behind her- not from Evan.

Something wet dripped onto her foot. Casting her eyes down- through the darkness- Sam could barely make out a shimmering machete with a dark liquid rolling down its sharp shaft. It dripped like a never-ending waterfall.

Her stare met Evan's. The man stared back in horror, mouth open in a silent scream, as he slowly backed away.

A large hand slowly turned her around, the warm leather drenched in blood sinking into her cream shirt. The woman pitifully let this happen.

Sam's fight or flight screamed at her to do something- but she simply stared like a deer in headlights.

Lightning flashed- briefly lighting up the room.
