Game night

It was Friday morning and everyone was ready for the game. The whole school was decked out in our school's colors, yellow and black.
There was excited chatter all through the halls as students made bets about whether or not we would win and who would be the man of the match.
I don't partake in bets but if I did, my money would be on Axel.

Not being biased or anything...

Okay maybe I'm a bit biased but he IS really good. Or so I've heard.

Speak of the devil, " Stella!"

I turn around to see Axel making his way toward me.

I smile brightly and wait for him, butterflies already forming in my stomach.

" Hey sunshine, " he says with an easy smile.

"Sunshine?" I ask, tilting my head, " that's new."

He smirks, " Yeah, I think it suits you."

Whenever I think of the word "sunshine", I think of Ron's spell in Harry Potter:

Sunshine, daisies, butter mellow, turn this stupid fat rat yellow.

Seems fitting.

"Stella?" Axel calls, snapping me out of my thoughts.

I shake my head, " Huh?"

He rubs his neck, " I just asked if you wanted to wear my jersey."

Wear his jersey? Is something wrong with mine?

I look down at my yellow shirt, wondering if there was a stain on it.

Sensing my confusion, he clarified, " I mean my football jersey...at the game tonight... Will you wear it?"

I form an O shape with my mouth.
Oh...

The football team's girlfriends always wore their shirts to their games.

He wanted me to wear it?

I was touched but...

I wasn't his girlfriend.

"Umm, I don't know Axel, " I say nervously, " people might think we're a couple."

Something flashes in his eyes before he covers it up.

AXEL'S POV

Was that so bad?

Was it so bad if people thought she was my girlfriend?

Was she ashamed of me?

Not backing down, I respond, "Who cares what people think? I want you to wear my shirt."

She still looks at me unsurely.

I grab her hand," Please gorgeous, it would make my day. I'll be heartbroken if you don't wear it and we'll lose. You don't want to be the cause of us losing the game, do you?"

I was blackmailing her, but I was desperate.

I wanted everyone to see her in my shirt.
I wanted everyone to know she was my girl.

Even if she hasn't accepted it yet.

STELLA'S POV
I can't believe he's blackmailing me!

While part of me was flattered and really happy that he asked me to wear his shirt, the other part was dreading the rumors and attention that it would bring.

But all hell would break loose if he didn't play his best at the first game I ever came to.
They would immediately blame me.

I also really didn't want to hurt him.
