Chapter 43

Esme Cullen's POV

Just watching Edward with Scarlet it's like seeing a whole new person come to life. Even when he was with Bella, I can't say I've ever seen Edward so relaxed...so human. It's almost like when Scarlet is with him or even just mentioned, he just lights up and for once during his vampire existence he doesn't see himself as a monster who doesn't deserve happiness. 'I don't think I've ever seen him so happy in all the years I've been a vampire' I think, venom filling my eyes.

Looking over at the rest of the family I could see not one of them was uncomfortable around Scarlet, like they were whenever Bella was around. It was almost a relief knowing all of us could just be ourselves, even with Scarlet not knowing about us being vampires but I couldn't help but think that may change with the way Edward acts round Scarlet. He acts like she's delicate, like Scarlet's the most precious person in the world to him and when the time comes, I just know Edward would turn Scarlet into one of us without question unlike with Bella where every conversation whenever she was invited round ours was about when she would be turned, however to Edward it wasn't even an option-he never was going to turn her no matter what happened between them. 'Bella just wasn't the one for him,' I think.

Edward's POV

Hearing Esme's thoughts I look over to her with a smile and nodded, fully agreeing that Bella wasn't the one for me but was a stepping stone in me meeting Scarlet, her half sister. Looking down at Scarlet, I couldn't help pulling her closer into my arms at the thought 'She really is the one for me' I think with a smile. I tighten my arms around Scarlet and gently rest my head against hers just breathing in her calming scent 'I could stay like this forever, with Scarlet in my arms' I think finally understanding what my other siblings and adopted parents felt like when they met there mate for the first time. "They love you" I whisper into Scarlet's ear even though I knew the rest of the family could hear. 'I think I love you.' I think to myself.

Scarlet's POV

I smile up at Edward and was just about to answer when I felt a cold hand take mine and pull me in the direction of the stairs. Startled, I turn to see Rosalie grinning at me "I hope you don't mind staying in my room!" Rosalie says excited and I couldn't help but grin back "I can't wait," I reply back and start to follow her towards what I could only assume was her bedroom. I look back to once again thank the Cullen's but got distracted seeing Edward glaring at Rosalie and couldn't help but tease him a little. "Don't worry Edward, it's the weekend tomorrow, you can have me all day then if you like," I smile cheekily with a laugh before allowing Rose to pull me all the way up the stairs, hearing a booming laughter following behind me; just knowing it was Emmett. Rosalie gently pulled me into her room with a giggle of her own "I'm so happy you agreed to stay here tonight, you have no idea how worried Edward and the rest of the family was when you didn't reply back to our messages." Rosalie exclaimed just relieved and thrilled that she got to spend more time with and get to know Scarlet more; what her likes and dislikes were and more importantly the feelings she seemed to be developing towards her brother Edward.

"I'm really sorry for worrying you all, it was never my intention. I didn't get the time to open my text messages since I got distracted with some family business." I say, feeling bad for worrying them but feeling quite touched that they cared so much about me. "Again though, thank you so much for allowing me to stay tonight, especially when you all barely know me" I say sincerely. "Don't mention it, I'm just glad you accepted the offer to stay." Rosalie says excitedly, delighted that she and the rest of the family could get to know Scarlet better. Looking up at the time, 9pm. I start to get ready for bed and couldn't help but let out a yawn, the long exhausting day finally catching up to me and see from the corner of my eye Rosalie doing the same.

As soon as I finished my nightly routine I got settled into Rosalie's bed with Rosalie getting into the other side and was about to turn the lights off when a knock echoed around the room. Looking at Rosalie, I frown- confused- catching her rolling her eyes, almost as if she knew who was at the door. "Come in Edward" Rosalie says soundly a little annoyed but not at all surprised answering my silent question. Shocked I look over and see Edward looking sheepish in the doorway "I just wanted to wish you a goodnight" Edward says bashfully before quickly closing the door in embarrassment. I couldn't stop the little giggle escaping from how adorable he was acting, before whispering almost silently "Sweet dreams" back, not realising that Edward could hear me from the other side of the door who smiled, a gentle loving smile before heading toward his own bedroom. "Goodnight Rosalie" I whisper before turning the lights off and got settled into Rosalie's bed, just about catching Rosalie's "Goodnight" back before sleep started to take over.
