Mute

Peter was mute. He had been since birth.

He was adopted by Tony, who before hand, had learned asl, along with Pepper. The three of them were fluent.

Peter refused a translator, as Tony had made a special phone for him, that could translate Peters asl, just by feeling the slight movement in his hands and arms.

Today, the avengers were coming to visit Tony and his family, to mend fences. It was a slow process, but the avengers were all already in a better place than at civil war. The worked with the accords, and made a deal.

Tony had asked Peter what he wanted to do. If he wanted to tell them about him being mute or not.
The one thing was, his phone, right before the avengers came, had died, so he would have to go old school hand asl. No voice to translate.

Peter, still wasn't on the best terms with the avengers. They had tried to kill his dad.

He decided to mess with them a bit, and not tell them. Some of them would figure it out, other, he would watch and laugh at.

The elevator dinged.

"That's them." Pepper said, straitening a throw pillow on the couch.

Tony greeted them and welcomed them in. They all filed in, looking around, but mostly looking at Peter. No one had known about Peter until they arranged to meet up, so it was the first time they were meeting him (they didn't realize he was Spider-Man).

"Hey everyone. Nice to see you all when we aren't fighting to the death." Tony was the only one who chuckled a little. He cleared his throat, " Tough crowd. Okay, this is Pepper, you all have meet each other." All the avengers nodded and smiled at Pepper, who smiled in return.

"And this is Peter. We adopted him two years ago."  Peter gave them a head nod.

Steve turned to look at Peter, " Hi Peter, I'm Steve."
He held out his hand for Peter to shake. Peter shook it and said nothing in return. It wasn't like he could.

Steve seemed to notice. Of course, just like his father, moody and annoying.

They all went to sit down and soon the conversation turned to Peter.

"So Peter, how do you like school?" Clint said, curiously.

Peter looked to his dad for help.

"Peter really likes science, and engineering. He's always in the lab with me." Tony answered for Peter. Peter nodded in agreement.

"Are you in any clubs Peter?" Natasha asked.

Pepper answered this time, " Peters in a decathlon team. It's like a trivia and math team. They go all over competing."

Natasha nodded. This went on for a while, and all the avengers were getting a bit annoyed.

Finally Steve broke, and said, " So do you not like us or something? Why aren't you talking to us?!"

Peter looked at him like he was stupid. Tony was about to speak but Peter put his hand up stopping him.

Then, Peter swiftly signed, <I would talk, but that's kinda hard for me. And yeah, I'm a bit annoyed, you tried to kill my dad.>

Steve looked confused like he didn't get it. All of the avengers did, except for Clint, who signed back, <Yeah, I figured you were mute after a bit. I learned asl as a kid. Also I was deaf for a while so I used it then too. Give the others a bit, they'll understand sometime. Hopefully>  Peter smiled, as well as Tony and Pepper.

Peter turned to Pepper and signed, <I like that one.> which caused Clint to laugh.

The others were very confused. Finally Clint signed, <Can I tell them?> Peter nodded.

Clint proceeded to be over dramatic, taking a long breath, then said, " Peter Stark... is... mute, you dummies. He doesn't talk to you because he literally can't." Peter smiled and high fived Clint. He then signed <I like you Mr. Clint. Your funny. Now that I know I can talk to you, I'm Peter. It's nice to meet you."

Clint smiled and signed, < You can call me Clint kid, I don't act old enough to be a Mr.>
