It dawns on me, I was the only married one in the marriage that requires two'

~NICK~

A lot of emotions were spinning through my mind as I stare at the now-closed door of the surgery room. For all logical reasons, I’m not meant to be here but courtesy demands I show up if for nothing but for the thing called marriage that bound us together.  I resumed my pacing praying to know what’s happening in there. At least a hint will do. Could Lauren have been poisoned? If yes, then by who?

I exhaled when the thought of the person I met within the resort rings in my head. I look back at Hillary who stood at a comfortable distance from me; he’d know better than to come an inch close. I would have loved to snap his head off his broad shoulder for being here but I needed answers as to what happens and since he was dining with her and doing all sorts of immoral things that I rather not think of with her, then the more reason he needed to be here to account to what led to her distorted state.

I wish I could tell my heart how to act when it comes to Lauren. That woman got me where no woman has and it pained me to realize that. It shouldn’t have been her to do this to me.

“Excuse me, gentlemen” My head went in the direction of the voice and so does Hillary for he walked closer. The man was probably in his thirties, he had on his white scrub and lens. His hands are covered with white gloves and a nose mask neatly place over his nose. The beam of sweat gather on his temple as he beckoned on us with a faint smile. It must be exhausting being a doctor.

“How is she?” we both chorused. I shut my eyes trying hard to contain myself from punching the owner of the voice. I narrowed my eyes at him for a second then focus on the doctor.

Hillary attempted to speak with the doctor but got a warning glare from me instead. Doesn’t he get it that his presence is disastrous to me? He close his mouth and lifted one hand in surrender and back off.

I guess the doctor notice the tension with the way he raised his brows at us and decided to speak, “Who is the husband?”

“I am” I answered still glaring at Hillary.

“Very well then, your wife condition is not looking good and we'd need your consent to carry out the surgery” He explained.

“Go ahead then, anything to make sure she's okay” I know Lauren hurt me in the worst way possible but I didn’t wish her death, if anything I'd like us to separate and discussed the parenting in regards to Josiah but I doubt Lauren would want to have a mother relationship with her son.

“That’s why we need your consent. Maybe I need to explain how things are so you understand the kind of surgery I’m referring to” He sighed and I suddenly felt worried. I look past him to Hillary who also had a worried expression on his face. No, he looks terrified for some odd reason, like he knows something that I didn’t. I ignored him and turned to the doctor.

“What’s going on?” I asked calmly.

“We found out that she underwent a CS and did have complications, I guess she'd been warned of some certain risk she shouldn’t take seeing as she had undergone the CS twice”
